Thread: The Oud Game

  1. #1

    Default The Oud Game

Since there are so many oud fragrances in today's world, let's have some fun with it. Just name one oud based fragrance you don't even think most BNers have sampled yet. You can write as much or as little info as you want and/or post a pic of it. It doesn't matter if you haven't tried it. This can also be a chance to give some less popular bottles/houses more recognition.

    I'll go first.....

Smell of Freedom Part 3: Oudh Heart by Lush is a Oriental Woody fragrance for women and men. The fragrance features sandalwood, olibanum, agarwood (oud), cedar and iris.

Judging by the lack of responses in the thread I created earlier tonight, I'd say Oud Save the King is a surefire candidate. Been wearing the sample I got a few days ago, liking it a lot. Next to Oud Wood it's probably my favorite oud, it's very wearable but also very prominent and refined and not at all ordinary. Awesome ad campagin too!

Many guys have not sampled Bond no. 9 Signature Perfume. Many people don't even think it's an oud fragrance, but I find it very clear, bright, sharp and light - one of my favorite oud presentations!

Mystreious Oud - Chabaud - Don't believe I have heard others other than myself mention it.

I know a few have sampled this one, but it's still somewhat under the radar. And it's really good IMO. Oud Assam by Rania J - very affordable too.

How about this offering from Korres, a less well known Greek homeopathy firm. This was the first oud scent I ever tried/owned:

I was at Barneys looking at other stuff, and saw 'yet another oud' from someone I'd never heard of, and figured eh it's a free sample, so I took one of Terryfic Oud from Terry de Gunzburg and I've got to say WOW, I was really impressed with this stuff. Huge longevity, pretty solid projection, and a beautiful rendition of oud with supporting notes. Clearly had that smoked oud wood smell (I recently burned some so it totally nailed the smell), added in some jammy notes (think Jubilation XXV) and if I recall correctly, also a bit of dirt and funk like L'artisan's Al Oudh especially with the saffron rose cumin combo. Maybe y'all know this guy, but I'd never seen it mentioned anywhere and was really impressed.

Most of the time I am very proud of the Basenotes community. Time after time I have witnessed the thoughtfulness, empathy & genuine friendship that members of this community extend to others - oldtimers & newcomers alike. There are other times, however, when egos get the upper hand and civility goes out the window. My philosophy is that I won't say anything here that I would not say if you were standing in front of me. Welcome to Basenotes, each and every one of us. ~ TwoRoads

Thanks people. I like this game. I am definitely going to sample Terry de Gunzburg - Terryfic Oud.

My contribution is one that I also have in line to get at sample of, so I don’t know if it is any good yet. Oud by Reminiscence.

This is a very nice subdued oud. I enjoy it and own a bottle of this.

Kozmic Oud by Marc de la Morandiere is a Oriental Woody fragrance for men. Top notes are ginger and pepper; middle notes are birch, vetiver and tonka bean; base notes are agarwood (oud), styrax and tolu balsam.

OK, I'll stop being the only player in my own game, lol.

I hadn't heard of this one. Looking at the website, there are a few fragrances that are new to me, but there's nothing about availability. Are they in the shops, or only online?

And to play the game, I'll add Oudh Noir by Angela Flanders. UK Basenoters may have tried it, but I'm guessing not many. Similar vibe to Piguet's Bois Noir.

It might not be fair, but I'd love to hear about some of them.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Ahh, I see you're in England though. I just googled it and it appears a few options to buy/sample it are available. I would assume you could find it there somehow.

Yes, you can always order through Lush's website, but not everything appears in their shops. It would be great to be able to smell these while I'm in town shopping, but I'm guessing not!
