Default Which do you get more compliments with.. niche or designer?

Just curious cuz it's been my experience that i've gotten more compliments with designer. Which i don't care since i wear frags for my own enjoyment. Just curious to see if others have the same experience. Btw that would make a good poll. Js

HiM by Hanae Mori and aventus have gotten me the most compliments in recent memory.

I haven't gotten more than a handful of compliments, but of the ones I've gotten I'd probably have to put myself on the designer side as well.
My girlfriends 2 favorites came from YSL, although Creed VIW has easily become her favorite scent on the 4 occasions I've been able to wear it.

Niche, but only because I predominantly wear niche.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

About 50/50... Probably more niche, but I think I wear niche more than designer.

What I can say is that I get far more compliments from the citrus / acquatic / fresh ones than I do with the heavier ones (ambers, incense, oud, etc.) - regardless of the classification of the maker.
    Current Summer Favorites:

    1. Xerjoff - Nio
    2. Tom Ford - Rive d’Ambre
    3. Dior - Homme Cologne 2013

    5. Armani - Code Sport Athlete
    6. Montale - Aoud Legacy
    7. Dior - Homme Sport 2008
    8. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
    9. Ermenegildo Zegna - Sicilian Mandarin
    10. Creed - Pure White Cologne

When I do get compliments they are equally divided among both.

No doubt about it. I know there are plenty of niche fragrances that fall under the "crowd favorite" description you've provided, however I do feel that the goal of many designer frags are to capture that "sweet, fresh" smell; where as many niche houses tend to become more complicated with the scent being given off, capturing those notes that a connoisseur will love but the average person may not. I don't hold the most valid opinion on the topic considering I haven't been on the lookout for fragrances for too long now, but of the designer and niche fragrances I have put my nose on that seems to be my general conclusion

About 70% niche (Straight to Heaven, L'Humaniste, MI) and 30% designer (Encre Noire, M7, Terre d'Hermes).

Yea girls love l'homme & la nuit.. I think my most compplimented fragrance (before i got into collecting & wore 1 frag year round) was Kenneth cole reaction. Now i look back & think damn how could they smell it?! And i only used 2 sprays! Lol

It's gotta be Designer, they double down on what works/elicit reactions. Whereas Niche travels on roads least visited.

Of all the expensive/exclusive fragrances I own, the only one I got a compliment on lately was Angel. So in my case it's 100% designer. Not very scientific, I know.

Thierry mugler pure havane, grabazzi, gendarme, and amouage gold man have given me the most compliments.

Surprisingly everyone I know says grabazzi and ysl libre are my best smelling colognes with roadster catching up.

Grabazzi is the most projecting out of the line with gendarme 5 behind it.

Original gendarme is the best. I do about 3 or 4 sprays of gendarme and it last me for 8 hours. Gendarme is a funny fragrance. Your nose will get accustomed to it so you won't be able to smell it on yourself but others can. I would suggest sample to see how well it does on ur skin. If it's not so great the have a perfume version. Or u can always get gendarme 5. Gendarme 5 has more floral in it.

Yes!! Another fan of L'Homme Libre!! I swear by this juice! My first "legit" fragrance so it quickly became my signature scent. My moms favorite by a mile, and it was my girlfriends favorite until she smelled VIW on me. Still, every time I where it she loves it the all the same. My most complimented hands down, although I have only worn VIW 3-4 times and have an outstanding compliment to wear ratio with it

In the last few months I've gotten two female compliments from wearing Montale Black Aoud. The last designer compliments I've gotten were for Guerlain L'Instant PH and Bvlgari PH Extreme.

About 60% niche (very few on Bonds, most all on Creeds). 40% on high-end designer (Chanel, Guerlain, Hermes). Dior, YSL and Bvlgari have also done well.

Hadn't really thought about it, but I'd say about 50/50.

Designers, but my answer may not matter that much, since designers make up more than 90% of my collection. So if there were more compliments, it is far more due to a simple probability, rather than just the qualities of designer scents.
