I wanted to hate Paco Rabanne Black XS because 1 million to me is so terrible but infact I wear the hell out of this juice. Have one like it?

No, but 1 Million is as bad as they come. Anyone who can feel themselves in that one needs to seek some therapy.

Outside of the snobbery typed by pluran, the answer to your question is yes for me. I didn't want to like anything released by Ed Hardy because I feel like the image of the company is pretty lame. However, I own a couple of their fragrances because they are decent and the prices were low.

I also like Black XS by the way. A compliment getter.

Probably Clive Christian X for Men. The ridiculous pricing and pretentiousness of the house disgusts me but X for Men smells amazing.

Has nothing to do with snobbery, just lack of thought. I rarely overlook something because of the reputation. I suppose Michael for Men is one of those types. Figured it was a little cheap, felt it was, but I like it much better than most $300 niches. But that's the case with a lot inexpensive fragrances. I like many of them a lot better than the $300 niches which I own plenty of.

That would mean I entered into the room with preconceived notions and I try to be objective and then I let the powerful olfactory I've been bless with do it's registering it to the banks and hence generate a result of positive proportions or epic downfalls...cheerios

Hate is a strong word, I disliked DHI when I first smelled it as it just seemed to be lipstick with a bit of cocoa.

A few years later it grew on me and I'm quite fond of it now.

I agree with those who said they don't try something "wanting" to hate it. I'll come at it from a slightly different angle...

To a certain extent, I "expected" to have some difficulty warming up to Chanel Allure Homme Sport. I sometimes turn off to all these "sport" fragrances, finding them similar to each other and without character. After wearing a sample from Sephora on a few occasions, I realized that it was actually refreshing (esp in conservative applications) and had a place in my rotation. Pleasant surprise.

Usually, I sniff with an open mind. Three are mentioned on here that I sniffed with an open mind and liked a lot: 1 Million, Black XS, and Bleu de Chanel.

But there is one huge exception, and it's a whole house. When I first saw the By Kilian line at Bergdorf's on a trip to NYC in January 2008, I, as a marketing student, thought "overdone packaging, overblown concept - how will this line survive in this economy that's taking a nosedive?".

Fast forward to the summer of that same year, and I was in southern California visiting family. By then, I had heard some great reviews of the line and made a stop at South Coast Plaza. I stopped by Saks, sniffed A Taste of Heaven, and was floored. The salesguy told me to come back the next day because Kilian was visiting the store. So I came back, and Kilian himself told me to sniff Straight to Heaven. I was floored even more, bought a bottle on the spot, and thanked Kilian for introducing it to me. The story doesn't stop there: in winter 2013 in Chicago, I bought Back to Black as well.

Now THAT is a U-turn of epic (no, not the Amouage) proportions.

No, but that's because they get pushed down the list of priority when I'm sampling so I guess I haven't gotten around to testing them yet.

If I love it, I wouldn't want to hate it. I approach fragrances with an intention of discovery and bewilderment. Upon first sniff the coin is flipped and my nose will decide which side the coin lands on. 50/50 chance. Yes, there are some grey areas, but that is a red flag. Some fragrances do grow on you, but I'm after that immediate love just like Esencia Loewe was for me. Even most Creeds required some time for me to get to know them.

not b/c it is popular either, but just b/c it felt over-hyped and over-rated and also b/c i don't like incense notes very much. tried it a few times objectively and while i didn't like the incense undertones the first time, it's definitely done well and it's very versatile fragrance... hard to make something with such mass appeal imo.

Like many others I never thought about hating a frag before I tried it, but I will say the one newer fragrance that really surprised me because I like it so much and get compliments every time I wear it is 1 Million Intense. I don't care for the original 1 Million, but the Intense version is really nice! It's more mature and less in your face. Intense is not the right name for this one since I think it is actually a little toned down from the original.

If the fragrance is intended to be controversial or has a reputation for being skanky
then I want to experience those things. Sometimes I am disappointed when these
    turn out to be pleasant.
