Default Allure Homme Edition Blanche....Underrated as a Vetiver Fragrance?

Creamy lemons creamy lemons creamy lemons!

Without a doubt the most common phrase associated with AHEB. Almost every review of this offering mentions creamy lemons before the first sentence is even finished.

Which makes sense. There definitely are creamy lemons in Edition Blanche.

But I was wearing it for the first time today and noticed that the most prominent note, or the note at least on par with the lemon note, is vetiver. It's a great vetiver note too--fresh, equally parts earthy and woody, and steady. It holds for the entire duration of the scent. I

However, I rarely hear about the vetiver note in this one--or at least haven't noticed it when I've read about it. It appears people get vanilla before the vetiver. I don't. I think EB could be a good recommendation for someone looking for a fresh vetiver based fragrance, though it's not often classified as such.

If you like vetiver but don't enjoy the heavy hitters like Sycomore, Vetyver, Extraordinaire, etc., it might be worth taking a look at Edition Blanche.

Is it my skin? Or does anyone else get a fairly prominent vetiver note in this?

By the way, awesome fragrance. I'm glad Base notes has been talking it up lately.

I get it, but find it overshadowed by other notes which seem to relegate the vetiver to the backstage.

Undoubtedly lemon is the main note. But after that, it's pretty much vetiver for me, followed by vanilla, and then some pepper. And after about 2 hours, I find the lemon and vetiver about on an equal level.

I have never noticed vetiver, but only sampled it a couple times. Its a nice scent, not for me, but very smooth.

I definitely see your point. I think personally I've always detected that secondary note as ginger but ginger and vetiver do have a similar earthy/rooty vibe so I suppose that's splitting hairs. In either case I like the lemon, the vanilla and the earthy background to this one and its my SOTD in fact.

That's funny, I don't know if you saw the recent thread where I mentioned that I noticed we have very similar tastes, and now it turns out we had the same SOTD.

I've only smelled it once from a small sample, and never noticed any vetiver.

Hmmm...I've never noticed vetiver in this before. Which I think that I would, because I'm not a fan of vetiver at all.(at least not the HEAVY/dominant kind) I do notice it in L'Homme though, which is another favorite of mine...but it's so nicely blended and not the earthy kind. I just adore Edition Blanche!

One of my all time favorites. But I gotta say, I never really thought of it as a vetiver scent. Mostly vanilla, sandalwood, and lemon. But I am a huge vetiver fan, so maybe that's one of the reasons I love it so much. Next time I wear it, I will see if I can detect any vetiver in there, but the thought of vetiver had never crossed my mind before with this one.
    Current Summer Favorites:

I do get the "creamy lemon" but AHEB is far from just that. I blind bought it expecting something totally different than what it is, but don't get me wrong it completely gets my approval as I do really really like the scent and the way it performs.
For me the most surprising thing was the heavy dose of pink pepper, it was a lot spicier than I could have ever imagined after hearing "creamy lemon" so many times. I do get vetiver as well, but as others have said it does not overwhelm the scent for me

I don't get Vetiver from this either. I very much like the creamy lemon scent you described though.

I just bought this blind (arrived this week) and gave it a full-day wear for the first time today. It definitely dries down to a rooty, dry vetiver, no doubt about it. I like that aspect of it as well. I don't think it's properly considered a vetiver fragrance, but I do understand why you noticed that element. Actually the vetiver base reminds me of the base of Bleu de Chanel, though I prefer Edition Blanche. I still haven't gotten past Bleu's shameless synthetics.

I can't say it's the vetiver base but I have noticed a similarity between Bleu de Chanel, the normal Allure, Edition Blanche and even Platinum Egoïste. They all give off this one vibe that I personally can't define.

Lol. Of course you would say that!

I don't know, I wasn't expecting much going in and was very pleasantly surprised by this. I might have agreed with you years ago when I accidentally purchased a fake ( i thought everyone was crazy), but I'm pretty happy with this juice--long lasting and smells really nice.

Interesting replies though, I'm glad some of you get the Vetiver note as well. I was thinking maybe it was the nose playing tricks with sandalwood and ginger, but I'm pretty sure it's there.

I will say that because of this thread, I made Edition Blanche my SOTD. And to be honest this was the 1st time I got good longevity out of it. Must have been because it was actually warm out,(mid 70's)I could still clearly smell it on me after 5-6hrs which has never been the case before....so I was very happy!!!

Spot on, really. Thought of it first to be boring and generic, but no way! This one really does need some extra time, waiting and contemplating: There`s a mid to drydown note I find in Sycomore. Sort of ambery-woody-mineral vetiver smell. It's really not too far away from the lovely Sycomore-finish.

I've an 100ml (I've only worn it maybe four times). Strangely enough I don't remember getting any vetiver at all. That said I'm an amateur at best. I'll have to revisit it.. maybe tomorrow out of curiosity! Thanks for the thread!

Wore it yesterday, enjoyed it, picked up a note that could've been the Haitian vetiver, don't see it as a vetiver fragrance really though. About as much a vetiver fragrance as Royal Oud is an oud fragrance.
