Default How many different frags have you actually smelled?

I try to keep my wardrobe up to date with what I've tried, own, have owned. However there are just so many that aren't in the database, and so many more that I have just forgotten about.

I think over the years, I have probably smelled at least 1000 different fragrances. My journey hasn't ended either.. but it is getting a bit boring lol.
    My Ultimate Top 5:

    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Paul Smith Man (2009)
    Burberry London (2006)
    Prada Amber pour Homme (2006)
    Arpege pour Homme (2005)

    I would say...over 500, but that's just a guess.

I felt the same way...I sold off a lot of the fragrances I didn't wear. Now, I've found myself seeking the unexplored, the unique and the strange. If I can't what I'm looking for...I try to create it. That part of the hunting process I thoroughly enjoy. Actually, it's how I created Americana Rust (I couldn't find what I wanted in a tobacco scent.)

It's a shame so many frags smell alike. And although I haven't smelled nearly that many, I wonder if anything is TOTALLY unique anymore.
Just because a fragrance is expensive, doesn’t necessarily make it smell better than a cheaper one.

I can still pray in the U.S.A. (For now, anyway.)

In the hundreds I guess (though as a highly imprecise estimation), a little below a thousand. If I get to test more, might surpass the 1K mark.

I made an attempt to create a list of all fragrances I ever tried. Everytime I get to smell a new perfume, I write it down. Of course the list is not 100% accurate, as I sometimes forget to write some of them down, but my current count is 1412.

I've smelled around 1,500 fragrances. Not a huge amount by any means, but I've always been picky about what fragrances to give a real chance. For me that's the most important use of reviews.

Over a period of almost 40 years collecting fragrances, thousands upon thousands.

Now what is getting boring? The smelling of many or the fact that many are boring?

The former, and you need treatment immediately and the latter, I quite agree.

Somewhere between 200-300 I think, so I'm still relatively "green" in my fragrance journey. But even with just that many, I smell quite a few that I just think "meh, smells like X,Y,Z" And still others are a wonderful and unique scent, even when the note breakdown makes them look like they might be similar to a bunch of other frags.....and these are the type of surprises that I live for in this hobby!

That depends on what you're smelling though. If you're looking at mass-produced stuff, that's certainly going to be true. If you're looking at large distribution niche, that's also probably going to be the case also (although maybe less so). For me, I ferret out the artisinal stuff for exactly this reason, and even though I still run into redundancy, I'm constantly blown away by new ideas and approaches, but I tend to veer away from anything overly commercial.

For me, fragrance is similar to other interests I've had. I'm not going to hear music I like on the radio, see films I like in chain movie theaters, or enjoy books in Barnes and Noble top ten lists—those are largely "products" designed to move units, and hence, yes they all subscribe to similar frameworks of what sells the most. In all of the above areas, the passion is in discovery and the search rather than simply being handed something and being told to like it. Take a look at some off-the-beaten path stuff and see what's being produced outside of these environments—that's where the real fun is.

But to answer your question: I've no idea, but I'm sure it's a lot!

Over 20 years of being a perfume freak...God only knows how many I've smelled.
These days though, I try to make a note in my iPhone just for my personal record.

Since I started getting more interested in Cologne/Perfumes about 500-600 most of them being samples. I have 5-6 full sandwich zipper bags of samples...A while back I was bored and started separating the "Good" i like might be bottle, split, decant worthy and "Bad" Horrible stay away. The "Bad" baggy has a whole lot more samples(mostly luckyscent) than the "good" baggy.

    Some from the "good" baggy..
    Lubin Idole
    Honour Man
    Odin Century, Petrana
    Sex Pistol
    L'Artisan Havana Vanille

    "bad" baggy
    Domenico Caraceni 1913
    Lutens Daim Blond
    Testa Maura Capo di Feno
    M. Micallef Homme Aoud
Amouage Memoir Man & Gold Man

Not that many to be honest. Less than fifty? The majority smell the same, or are simply variations of a recurring theme.
