Default What Style of Fragrance Fits You Best?

    In general...

Yes, you may own a variety of styles and have a huge collection, but what style really works for you in the sense that it seems most closely matched to your personality, demeanor, surroundings, etc. The ones you throw on like a second skin, without a second thought.

I've come to the conclusion that while I like many different frags and styles, it's the fresh scents (L'Humaniste, VPH, Menthe Fraiche), the brighter ones that work best for me.

In the winter, it's probably gourmands.

Opulent orientals, the unembellished-straightforward woods, florals, and powerhouses--these are more often hit or miss.

    But a quality fresh/citrus/aquatic--never a problem.

    What works best for you?

Lately I've been all about fougères.

All through the year and often suitable for daytime/office/warmer weather wear, while still being in tune not just with my "scent requirements", but also my entire outlook on fragrances but also personal lifestyle, overall worldview, mood, mindset: citrus- both EDC style and beyond, vetiver, barbershop-style scents, more discreet powerhouses, cedar, chypre, fougere.
Colder weather, evening/formal wear, due to largely the same reasons as above: leather, tobacco, gourmands, heavier (and headier) powerhouses, certain amber/musky notes.

I would say slightly sweet classic woody scents like Egoiste, Heritage, LIDGE (not classic yet but will be for sure) etc.

That's a good question that I've never really thought about before. I'm right there with you when it comes to fresh fragrances. Maybe it's the fact that I live in a desert with basically only two seasons (summer and fall), but I have had a lot of success with light, fresh citrus (like Orange Sanguine). In cooler months, anything with tobacco or patchouli.

I love or have learned to love different categories but the soft, transparent, lightweight, under/average projection of most L'Artisan and Hermes' scents suit me the most.

Fougeré without question. I'm 32 but an old 32. I like my fragrances to be traditionally masculine and the fougeré style fits me perfectly

Dry woods, transparent/diaphanous compositions centered on wood with Somme citrus or subtle florals for freshness.
    Aventus? Never heard of it.

I've always been drawn to the fresh citrus fragrances that are well done. I like something easy to wear, but exceptional at being a fresh citrus aromatic.

The first fragrance I ever bought was Drakkar so I'm still partial to fougerés, although I mostly gravitate toward things that are on the fresher side as well or woody aromatic side. Orientals and gourmands are ones that I struggle with because if the balance of sweet is off in a fragrance for me it becomes extremely cloying. I think this is a regional thing, too, in southern California we don't get the typical kind of seasonal variation that many others experience. I try to keep an open mind, though, and allow myself to sample a lot. For example, something like Tom Ford Noir is a fragrance I never would've worn five years ago.

It seems most of you have a style that suits you, but I am not sure I do. I tend to go to orientals and incense the most, but I also go to just about any style from fruity, citrusy, sweet...anything really, as long as there is longevity. But please, leave out powder and/or vetiver. I can only take those in small doses and only if supported by notes that I really enjoy. So I guess my main criterea is longevity...but that is not a style.

I like woods and incense fragrances the most and they suit me. But, a nice light eau de cologne fits me just fine especially if a hint of dry woods is tucked up inside somewhere.
