    Default Dsquared Potion Black

I just got this a week back and I really like it.

A wonderful Rose, Incense , Tobacco scent with overtones of leather.

It has a very sophisticated and romantic vibe. This is quite the under rated fragrance IMO, and the price is a deal. Dsquared's best for sure up till now.

I get average projection but excellent longevity about 11 hours, with this one.

Any others who own this beauty?

If i remember, Jack Hunter is a big fan of this. I inquired about it around its release and he had some positive things to say. I STILL haven't smell it. I can't find anywhere to get it in the US. Where did you purchase it?

I just had to buy this after smelling it. A masculine fresh dark rose and incense accord that has a slight peppery sweetness from the pimento. Out of this you get hints of leather, tobacco, woods with a dash of oud. And I have to say imo it smells really good.

It also smells much more expensive than it actually is and it gives off a really classy romantic vibe making it perfect for evenings out.

How does the rose note compare to Noir de Noir? It sounds similar.

The notes sound wonderful and it's available at around £50 for a 100ml which seems like good value but I'm torn between this and Aramis Calligraphy Rose.

The rose is more brighter, think pink rose. Noir de Noir is more darker and earthier because of the patchouli and chocolate like notes.

That is interesting as I'm seeking an opulent yet bright rose note.

Now to track down a sample.

Great fragrance. Purchased it about two months ago. The priced has dropped from a year ago. Amazon had a few for about $70.00. One of the best designer scents in a while IMO. More of an intense version with rose of the edt Dsquared Potion.

Have tried it and thought it was OK but nothing special IMO.

Was it because it did not have the "MADE IN FRANCE" label , your criteria for purchasing fragrances,

It really does, its smells superb in colder air. Definitely one of the few stunner designer fragrances I have smelt in a LONG WHILE.

Really its there, but I think depending on your nose or the weather, different notes stick out more.

No, they are totally different, especially in the mid notes and drydown. Oud Ispahan is a very natural smelling animalic oud wood with patchouli , rose and sandalwood.

Potion Black is more of Tobacco Rose and incense fragrance.

The same seller on eBay that was selling the sub $20 Carven Homme bottles has several 100ml bottles of this one NIB for just under $60 delivered.

Blind bought this a little while back. 1st wearing really didn't impress me too much. But, because of this thread, I just broke it back out and put a quick spritz on my hand. I am really really liking it right now. I am not sure if it's just me, or if it works better in warmer weather, or if it's because my skin is slightly more oily (being later in the day). Probably just my nose is detecting it a little differently today, but I must say, it smells much deeper and richer than the last time I wore it. I will have to give it another full wearing very soon.

To me, this smells almost nothing like Dior Oud Ispahan, but they do share some common notes of course.

Where did you try it, hednic? Seem like it's very hard to find in North America, apart from a few eBay auctions.

How are the performances for you guys? I like the scent but i get terrible longevity with it (about 3 hours) for this type of fragrance and projection also minimal. Ussualy my skin is very friendly with fragrances so maybe the sample i tested it from had a problem?

On my skin I get several hours with average projection.

How similar is Potion Black to Potion Royal Black, both by D Squared? The notes look similar for each. Is it the same stuff?

    AFAIK there's only one 'Black'.

I just received my blind buy bottle today and sprayed it on skin an hour and a half ago for an initial read... First off, the rose is nicely done though I wish there were a bit more of it. It was definitely there early and still is, but it is quite light; more of a supporting note, IMO. My real gripe with the composition is its liberal use of cashmeran. Cashmeran comes off as synthetic soft woods, and I find the rose (and everything else) smothered in them.

All in all, Black is not a bad composition for sure, but unfortunately not the kind of thing I enjoy wearing... As things stand so far with its development, I very much prefer the original Potion to Black (which as an aside smells nothing like it). Oh well, at least I like the bottle. ;-)

edit: My neutral opinion on the composition remains, now through 12 hours on skin, but I think it is safe to say performance is not a problem with Royal Black. The composition still has plenty of potency all these hours later... That cashmeran is relentless in its tenacity...

Is cashmeran also used in Gucci Forever Now? There is something in Royal Black that somewhat reminds me of Gucci Forever Now except Royal black is more intense and with an addition of rose.

I can't comment on that as I haven't sniffed Forever Now... Sorry.

Not at all, Jack. ;-). I was happy to finally get the opportunity to try it, as the entire Potion line is quite hard to come by in the US...

For a good example of Cashmeran (combined with Rose and Pepper, co-incidentally), check out Declaration d'Un Soir.
