Cuir Mauresque is very good.
Thread: Recommend me a LEATHER scent
Hope Iím not spamming! I thought that this should be in a separate post.
Things I have in mind after research/sampling.
Hermes - Bel Ami ($125, haven't tried)
Guerlain - Derby ($250, tried it and liked it)
Knize Ten (haven't tried)
Parfumerie Generale - Cuir d'Iris (haven't tried)
SL - Cuir mauresque (only concern is that SL scents change too much)
Chanel - Cuir de Russie (liked it, but too conservative, maybe?)
TF - Tuscan Leather (pricey)
Dior - Leather Oud (didn't like this much)
Some say leather scents oldy. Should I worry about it? If not, what do you recommend? Thanks much.
Cuir Mauresque is very good.
A*Men Pure Leather….haha jk that is a joke of a scent with leather in it's name.
USAFAMMO9's Swap Thread:
Some that are well worth sampling are:
Fetish Pour Homme
Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford, one of my all time favs
"Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?" John Lydon
If you can find Cuiron, try it--it is great! My favorite is Knize Ten but there are many great ones from which to choose.
If you are lucky enought to still track it down: Creed Royal English Leather.
Dior Cuir Cannage
Acqua di Parma Colonia Leather
Tom of Finland
YSL Noble Leather (received a nice sample from a fellow basenoter - was quite impressed - and I'm not normally impressed by YSL)
1. Creed - Spice & Wood
2. Creed - Aventus
3. Dior - Vetiver
4. by Kilian - Incense Oud
5. Puredistance - Black
6. by Kilian - Cruel Intentions
7. Armani Privť - Oud Royal
8. BrŁckner - Aoud 1
9. Creed - Royal English Leather
10. House of Matriarch - Blackbird
Acqua di Parma Colonia Leather
Polo green -inexpensive and a great daily (green) leather for us average guys
Of course there is also Aramis - which is a flat out mainly leather scent - and one of my favorites. To me it's a classic.
Franck Boclet Leather

Creed REL and, in addition to the tastefully assembled and diverse list so far, also Knize Ten Golden Edition (have not tried it yet though I will have to do so asap, as it is said to have an additional vanillic note added to the leather of the regular version).
Tuscan Leather...if you want to smell like a chain smoking hooker....
My favorite leathers are as follows:
1. Cuir Ottoman - a holy grail scent for me (and an excellent value also IMO)!
2. Clive Christian C for Men
3. Puredistance M
4. Kinze Ten
5. Xerjoff Homme (outstanding, but similar enough to Kinze Ten that the price isn't justified IMO)

Cuir Ottoman, Cuir X, Moschino pour Homme, Knize Ten, Bel Ami, and the sadly - apparently - forgotten Russisch Leder by Farina.

My current top five:
Tiffany - Tiffany for Men (vtg)
Yves Saint Laurent - M7 (vtg)
Fendi - Theorema
Tom Ford - Tobacco Vanille
Gucci - Gucci pour Homme
My sales thread | NICHE & VTG | Shiseido Basala, Boadicea Invigorating, SMN Tabacco Toscano, Signoricci, YSL M7 (AS), Gucci Envy for Men (AS), Ungaro II...

Since you don't like Leather oud, I wonder if you just don't like the stronger varieties-or perhaps it was the animalic musks. In any case, Knize Ten is on the butch side, though not as butch as LO. The reference smooth leather would then be Chanel Cuir de Russie, which I don't find any more conservative than other leathers. The cited Tom of Finland would be another example of a smooth leather (with lemony-saffony accents). If you like Derby, you may also want to check Je suis un homme, which has a similar citrusy-woody-leathery structure, though perhaps it's a bit more citrusy and incensy.
To be more on the safe side of the spectrum I suggest Serge Lutens Daim Blond a powdery, flowery, fruity smooth leather.
Tuscan Leather and Cuir Ottoman would cover all your leather needs IMO.
Current favorites_____Black Tourmaline_____Gucci Pour Homme II_____Memoir Man_____Tuscan Leather______Montale Aoud and Pine_____Sel Marin_____Invasion Barbare_____Tonka Imperial____Dior Homme Intense_____L'Humaniste____Santal 33_____Bois d'Argent_____Nio_____MFK Oud_____Lumiere Noire_____Bois d'Encens_____Cuir Ottoman
Knize Ten but this is strong and unsubtle - wear with care!
I have the vintage Derby and IMHO, it's OK, but not fantastic. Don't waste your money on vintage or current. There are better.
Cuir de Russie - you'll smell like a middle-aged woman in a business suit.
Tuscan Leather - short-lived, overpriced but inspired use of raspberry note.
You may want to consider -
Rien - a softer, more wearable version of Knize Ten.
Antaeus - nice sage note.
Je Suis un Homme - to me smelt like Antaeus.
Cuir Ottoman - more suede or Jaguar leather rather than dirty motorbike leather.
Jules - a cleaner version of Knize Ten. This is my current favourite. Easy to wear, refined.
Cuir Pleine Fleur - mainly floral with a very light suede/leather base. Not really a full on leather. A lighter Cuir d'Iris, perhaps, but less lipstick/powder and more violet.
Fetish Pour Homme by Roja Dove
Silver Mountain Water
My favorites are Tom Ford Tuscan Leather, Guerlain Derby, and Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours.
Non old lady leather...? Well I typically dislike leathers. The one that I do really really enjoy is House of Matriarch Blackbird. It's expensive but absolutely incredible.
+1 for Cuir Ottoman and Tuscan Leather.
Tuscan Leather....try getting in on a split; you only need one tiny spray with this one, so I can a 20ml split lasting a very long time
From your list I prefer Cuir Mauresque. It isn't perhaps the truest leather, but it is an incredibly satisfying blend of leather, floral and spicy notes, with a little civet to ground it.
Honestly, it has taken me forever to get my head around the leather note.
My take on a few of your choices:
Chanel Cuir de Russie: one really must try it, but I didn't like the aldehydes in the opening.
PG Cuir d'Iris: too powdery, not wearable for me.
Derby is fine, but it is about a lot more than leather IMO.
Cuiron did not live up to the hype.
Daim Blond is a very nice scent, but it is suede, not leather. No sweat/dirtiness.
Sans parfum, la peau est muette.
"Thank GOD for the nose, for without it we would not be enjoying these beautiful created Scents" also Remember "Balance is everything and the key to appreciating "
I forgot to mention that Creed Aventus is also a nice leather scent. I get smokey leather and pineapple in mine.
Rasasi - La Yuqawam Homme
Derby is my favorite in general, one of my all time favorite, for the rest I would recommend several options:
- Parfum d'Habit MPeG
-Cuir Pleine Fleur Heeley
-Noir Patchouli by Histoires de Parfums
-Cuoio Tartaro by AbdesSalaam Attar Profumo
-Gianfranco Ferre For Man
-Cuir de Russie by Creed
-Roya Dove Fetish Pour Homme
- Knize Ten
- Cuir de Lancome
- Cuir de Russie Chanel
- Cuir Ottoman
- Dirty English for Men by Juicy Couture
- Nostalgia Santa Maria Novella
- Mazzolari lui (a touch of final leather)
Knize Ten (pref. vintage)
Yatagan (pref. vintage)
Bel Ami (pref. vintage)
Songe d'un Bois d'Ete
Or Black (vintage)
Derby (pref. vintage)
Oud Cuir d'Arabie
Onda Extrait (pref. vintage)
Bandit (pref. vintage)
Van Cleef & Arpels pour Homme (pref. vintage)
Cuir Pleine Fleur

From your list, Bel Ami, otherwise VC&A PH.
People will have a different take on it. IE. A lot of people say Tuscan Leather is super potent. On my skin Italian Cypress performed way better.
If you can handle Dior Leather Oud I think this is the best bang for your buck out there. I do love it but need to give it a break for a while.
Knize Ten is the most vile fragrance I've ever sampled. One of the very few I've had to rub off my wrist immediately.
I'd go for Tuscan Leather or Golden Boy by Dueto Parfums, which is comparable but cheaper, creamier and less aggressive than the former. TL is one of my top 3 fragrances.
Cuir Mauresque, Mona di Orio Cuir and Tuscan Leather are my favourites.
PdN's Baladin is a great, inoffensive leather.

I really liked White Suede by Tom Ford, though not sure its considered a leather. I only smelled it once, but it was a smooth new leather smell. Not too popular here but worth a sample.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?
There's a lot of leather fragrances I haven't smelled, but I have sampled a few. I noticed that a lot of them feel more "mature" and better suited for older gentlemen. They're not bad, but you have to like that aspect of it to fully appreciate those scents.
If you want a leather fragrance that smells sexy and youthful, you really can't go wrong with Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford. It's been my most expensive purchase so far, but I feel it was well worth it. It has some serious staying power, and the scent is one of the best I've ever smelled across all categories.
Mona d' Orio Cuir is my next leather buy. Spicy, smoky leather. I already own tuscan leather and wear it about once a week. I own knize 10 and it is a big scent. I traded away Cuir mauresque- too similar to knize ten but with more syrup underneath. Cuir Pleine is great. Cuir ottoman is another really good one. Carner Barcelona Cuirs is also a really nice leather scent.
Don't have much experience with leather scents, but I tried the Acqua Di Parma Colonia Leather over the weekend, and it smelled pretty frickin' fantastic. There seemed to be a lot more going on in it too, than just the leather, and it seemed great as a masculine summer cologne, on the darker side.
Don't know how it compares to other leathers though....

The funny thing is leather has no smell of its own--it's a preserved product. The notes we associate with leather come from the vat liquors and the conditioners that are applied after tanning--mostly fats and oils.
Impressive list in this thread. I'm a Tom Ford Tuscan Leather fan, I've liked/disliked/loved/fell out of love with Knize Ten. I'm fresh out of Creed Royal English Leather, but I doubt it would satisfy the itch of the OP.
I'll submit a possible alternative... Coach's Leatherware scents 01, 02 and 03. I'm personally a fan of 03, which reminds me a lot of Tom Ford White Suede but with a more butch approach to some notes. Yet 02 was the one I really liked. They play close to the skin (my style mostly) but last about 4-6 hours easily.
Cuir De Russie - I really don't like it and I tried. But it smelled like something my great-grandmother would wear.
Acqua di Parma Colonia Leather or Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
