    John Varvatos Vintage

The following frags had terrific scents despite what some may think. Whiskey, tobacco, sandalwood, and amber. However they only lasted 15 minutes or so:

    Tim McGraw

Guerlain Homme L'Eau. Maybe my favourite scent bar none. Lasts about an hour. So frustrating.

Wow............. I've been actually wearing this one today. Sprayed it on at about 9am, and it's now 5pm and this thing is *almost* as strong as when it started. It projects much less at this point, yes, but it's still pretty strong when I sniff my arm. I've always been surprised how strong and long lasting this one is, for a "light summery fragrance"... I can definitely still smell it on myself without raising my arm to my nose, 8 hours into it.

Methinks you are just experiencing olfactory fatigue with this one - it happens, and unfortunately sometimes to scents we love. It really sucks when that happens. Ask someone around you to see if they can smell it on you a few hours into the wearing.

Dior, Eau Sauvage -- But perhaps this is the point bc the scent is intended as a traditional eau de cologne.

Dior Homme sport. I love the lime/cologne influences, but I get about 15 minutes from 5 sprays on my shirt so not worth it.

    Tom Ford Tusacan Leather.

I'd love to buy this but all I get is maybe 2 hours of projection. It lasts a long time as a skin scent but that means nothing to me when I am paying $300.

Burberry London for me as well. This is the scent that got me hooked, the top is nice and the base is perfect (for me), unfortunately I think I'm the only one smelling the base. I have been considering leaving a small atomizer at work for re-sprays.

I know this goes against the grain but Vikt dies on me. I love the creamy licorice-oud but after a blast in the first 30 minutes, it dies with a whimper and becomes a persistent skin scent.

Must be current because the vintage dry down went on forever. I wore it for over 10 years as a signature scent.

Do you think is something general? something due to Fragrancex storage or to the fact of being a tester?

I think your bottle was perfectly legit. The reformulation was awful. They did come out with an extrait version but even that IMO never captured the true fragrance how I remembered it.

Basically forget anything old. It's over. Find something modern that suits your needs. You will be a lot happier.

I'd heard from a fellow Basenoter that the current formulation is decent and worth layering with the vintage. I hadn't bothered to getting the newer one yet and I think at this point I'm not even going to bother. Real shame... Seems the whole industry is gradually going down the tubes when you start seeing bell-weather fragrances being reformulated into junk. Forget anything old? On the contrary. Celebrate it and be sure to get old stock while you still can.

Azzaro PH - current/recent formula. Would expect something on the heavier side to have staying power, but I find this one loses its power far too soon. Great scent though.
