I'd wager it is partly because it hit fragrancenet, so you can get a really good deal on a tester (or even a regular bottle), especially considering the bottle usually goes for like $340.

Finally made my way to Henri Bendels. Wow... so much has been cleared out at this point. I wanted to get Profumi del Forte Marconi 3, but all they had left was a tester. Dang it. I tested about 15 different fragrances... some nice, some pedestrian... I was bummed a few I had interest in were already gone. So I snagged the last two bottles of Private Label instead. Found the opening a bit harsh and dry, but after about 30~45 mins the dry down softens up and the resulting effect is sublime. VERY potent stuff! Seems more like an EdP than EdT. I think I'm really going to like this.

Congrats! I also got a backup bottle the other day. It was a love at first sniff for me. Awesome and very unique take on vetiver, woods and a hint of leather. Reminds me a bit of Turtle Vetiver Back, not the scent so much, just the overall different oriental direction this one is taking. My favorite from Jovoy.

Thanks remik, that's good to hear. I'm a big fan of green notes and looking forward to sampling the Forest.

Most of my buys have been blind, and I'm delighted with the majority, but there are a few that, had I sampled, I wouldn't have chosen. The reviews here on BN are enlightening and in general extremely well written, but fragrance is very subjective!

Thanks, remik. I found that my first impression was just olfactory naivete. Now that I am accustomed to the fragrance, I'm enjoying the opening as well. I do agree, this is a rather unique take on a vetiver focused fragrance. I enjoy vetiver, but some incarnations become a bit too linear and boring to me after a while (Encre Noire being one). Anyway, I'm glad I hunkered down with two, even though the EdP concentration of this stuff will ensure a bottle lasts a very long time. I doubt I'll ever become bored with this one. And the bottle is just exquisite, tastefully done and high quality.

Incidentally, Henri Bendel's flagship store in NYC is very elegant. You go up this rather wide winding staircase up to the fragrance station that overlooks the first floor blow, with a view of the 3rd floor above. I should have taken some photos but I didn't want to look like a tourist.

Funny, I was always so focused on Knize 10, Gold, and Sec that I completely overlooked Forest. Looks like this has been around for some time (first review was in 2006). Is there any similarity to the other fragrances in the Knize line-up, an underlying vibe that makes it feel like it's connected somehow? Or is it completely different?

As not to hijack this thread, I'll be brief. I've never tried Gold or Sec, only K10 and now Forest. These are completely opposite. K10 is straight up solid butch leather, Forest is a green fougère. Take a look at the reviews here and on Fragrantica - they are pretty much spot on (at least the ones from the more seasoned noses). Very nice.

Received a blind buy cheapie over the weekend, Malizia Uomo Vetyver. Pretty straight forward clean green vetiver, as opposed to the earthy or smoky sort. Mild to moderate projection and lasts about 6 hours, not too shabby especially considering it cost about $15 for 50ml.

From Saturday's perfume sniffing across Manhattan. My good friend at Chanel in Saks gives me Les Exclusifs minis, since she knows I'm trying to collect them all, as they are ridiculously charming (My full parfums are there just to enhance the photos aesthetic haha). She also gave me these three ceramic "perfume me Chanel" camellias, which I've never seen before, that are used by spraying the flat side with perfume, so that it absorbs the fragrance as it's intended to, and then placed in one's drawer to perfume your garments. It's lovely! I'm fact, she soaked one in that incredible 31 Rue Cambon EDT.
    IMG_20140712_193301.jpg
I didn't buy anything here either but I've been anxious to experience the new Cuir Cannage from Dior and was randomly given these sensational minis by the lovely SA in Bergdorfs. Apparently, only one is given to a consumer who purchases a large bottle from the La Collection Priveé line. Wherever I go, people just love giving me things for free lol. I'm very grateful for all this generosity I received.

    Thanks! :-)

Hermès rarely disappoints, and even those I personally dislike, I still have to give it to them for quality of their juice, and overall presentation.

The store also gave me a sample of Ambre Narguille, and my first impressions are positive. Was planning on giving it a proper wear today.

Roja Dove Amber Aoud Crystal Parfum

This one is a bitch to photograph. It's so shiny and sparkly. I have all my studio lights the office and I was trying to capture this at home - so this was taken with just an iPhone. Trying to capture the bottle and box - it's unbelievable how reflective this one is (the box is crazy shiny and the label is not far behind it). I had to find just the right angle for things to even show in the photo without washing everything else out (even with HDR on).
