Default How are you enjoying the trio from Papillon so far?

I was introduced to Papillon perfumes on Tuesday and I was so impressed with them. I've not seen too much written about them here, but a lot of my friends in the perfume industry are very excited about the house.

I'm currently wearing Anubis and I just can't get enough of the jasmin/suede concoction. It's a real contender for my winter rotation as it's got that smokey yet cosy vibe that I love about Interlude Man.

How are you enjoying the offerings from Papillon?

Any updates here? Has anyone tried these? They are getting marvelous reviews over at Kafkaesque so was wondering what you guys thought...

I have to give Le Senteurs a visit in the next few days and will report back. Anubis definitely is the one I'm looking forward to trying along with the Tobacco Rose. Angelique also looks pretty interesting as the combo of tart osmanthus and white champaca with powdery iris really intrigues me.....I suppose the mimosa is used to tame the tart fruity aspects of the first two flowers to work with the Iris.

Anubis was my favourite but was not original enough to warrant a purchase.
They are very well done 'though and will doubtless find many fans.

Aha...thanks, Ipp, I was wondering what your take on Anubis might be. I saw that Kafka was comparing Anubis to Amouage Tribute Attar, so I was wondering what you thought of that comparison, and Sultan and Cazaubon, will be very interested in finding out what you think of them too!

    Hi Claire!

The samples purchased by myself were passed on what seems like several lifetimes ago or I'd go & have a sniff

From memory, Anubis reminded me of Sahara Noir but that could just be my famously defective nose!

Does anyone know where to buy samples of these? Indigo perfumery does not currently seem to have them in stock.

I tried all three and from memory, Tobacco Rose was my favourite.

Unfortunately for me, I am not a fan of suede as a note, I had hoped that Anubis might fix that issue but alas no - a very nice scent but not one for me

I've tried 2 of the 3 (not Tobacco Rose). Anubis and Angelique are both fine fragrances of which I will almost certainly buy bottles. Angelique=iris+gaiac+mimosa+incense.. Leans a bit sweet, but is balanced and dries down as an iris+wood. Anubis is a campfire scent a la Lonestar, Jeke, & Fumidus. You have to like your smoke to like this one. And I do.

PalmBeach - I had not been aware that there was a Papillon split going on until I was reminded, so I just wanted to give some attention to some folks that might be interested in the scents but are not aware of a currently existing Papillon split just like I was.

For me, Anubis is extremely kick ass. It starts with a bit of suede, then quickly turns into a smokey incense fragrance. More smoke than incense, but the smoke is not in your face like Bois d'Ascese or Fumidus, but more restrained. To me it is the perfect balance.

Tobacco Rose is a great honeyed rose. I really did not get much of what I would call a straight up tobacco from it. All in all an extremely good rose fragrance.

Angelique, starts as a light floral, that dries down a little woody with a tad of incense. To me, it was a little powdery.

Anubis and Tobacco Rose, at least for me are both worthy of owning.

All in all, not a bad start for Liz.

I've got all three samples coming again, as Yarn sent me a sample, alas we didn't know for sure which one it was.

It had an incredibly powerful floral hit at the beginning, and does smell kind of powdery later, so I imagine it was the angelique,

I'm hoping the Tobbaco rose will be more my style.

So far I have tried Anubis and Tobacco Rose. Theyare both lovely, but I prefer the tobacco amber goodness of Anubis.

I tried Angelique as well now, my assessments are the same as Palm Beach's. Very happy to own Anubis and Tobacco Rose.

Received all three as free unsolicited samples with a purchase from Luckyscent. Thought they were interesting, especially Anubis, but nothing I personally would consider purchasing.

    Finally got all three samples.
Yarn was right when he thought it was tobacco rose he sent me, (thanks Yarn, you were spot on with it!)

For me, Tobacco rose is strange, does have a very Hard Rose beginning, which I seem to get throughout, overpowering everything else. Longevity is really good however, and projection is quite high. I can see it being a femme frag, for me, you'd need to be a strong man to pull it off as a main scent.

Angelique is pleasant enough, with a sweeter vibe. Less florals, and more sugar, but doesn't seem to have the staying power TB has.

Anubis is my fave of the three, with a suede overtone, more projection than angelique but not as much as the rose in TB,
That said, even being a nice frag, I couldn't warrant £100 on a bottle of 50ml compared to so many other frags out there unless I found a used bottle for cheap, I won't be buying it in the near future,

In summary, three NICE fragrances, but nothing to WOW you.
