Default L'eau D'Issey By Issey Miyake vs. Aqua Di Gio

I am an 18 year old and I love love LOVE Aqua Di Gio, but it didnt last on my skin, so someone told me go and buy L'eau D'Issey By Issey Miyake, and well i am dissappointed because its nothing like ADG. ADG is floral aquatic and fresh, but ... L'eau D'Issey By Issey Miyake is weird smelling to me.. it smells like an old church.. did i get a fake bottle because the Serial number checks out the bottle also seems authentic, the sprayer is amazing as well but compared to ADG , the smell is sub par

Issey Mikyake is a beast on my skin. As you mentioned, it's floral aquatic and it's also slightly woody. Nice fragrance.

Both are nice scents, but between them, the Armani is nicer IMO.

Weird that you say that Issey smells like an old church to you - it's rather fresh and woodsy, not dank or incense-y to me at all. If ADG didn't last, try Essenza. It has an extra bit of oomph that actually won me over.

You can try Acqua di Gio Essenza, it's an EDP and may last longer on your skin. Also try Perry Ellis Red 360, it's cheap, long lasting and smells almost identical to Acqua di Gio, just a bit of cinnamon thrown in the mix there.. Issey Miyake is very loud and very annoying, lasted forever and a day on me when I wished it just disappeared:-)

Great call. No sense in creating a poll if you already know you don't like L'eau D'Issey. I suspect you'll have better luck with the AdG flanker.

For me, AdG by default. Leau d'Issey is one of very few scents that actually brings back unpleasant memories for me...! Even without that though, I think I'd still give the nod to Gio.

It smells nothing like the smell of an old church (not that I have a good reference to make the comparison). I have no idea if you have a fake, but all I can say is the "real" L'Eau d'Issey pour Homme is tied as my least favorite composition so I obviously don't recommend it and strongly prefer AdG.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage/V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)

I agree - L'Eau d'Issey smells nothing like a church. So, you may have a fake - or it went bad.

Like others suggested - If you love AdG, try AdG Essenza. Really good stuff. 3 sprays (2 of them on clothes) lasts all day for me.
    Seasonal favorites:

    1. Creed - Spice & Wood
    2. Creed - Aventus
    3. Dior - Vetiver

L'Eau D'Issey and Acqua Di Gio are both aquatic, but I agree that they aren't that similar.
Personally, I strongly preferre L'Eau D'Issey, which I think has a bit more personality.
I know AdG is popular, but it just seems kind of generic-fresh to me.
I'd compare AdG to cK One, which seems similarly "generic-fresh" to me. But cK One definitely won't solve your problems with longevity.

I'm just dog-piling at this point, but yeah... AdG Essenza may very well be your answer. Just be aware that it sells at a bit of a premium. If you want AdG, but MORE of it though, this is your most probable route to a good result.

It seems real.. and how do i know if a cologne went bad.. it came in a sealed box.. but the packaging seemed warm... so could heat have something to do with it?

As others have suggested, ADG Essenza might be your best options. Really a very nice scent, and it lasts at least 6 hours on me, with solid projection.

ADG all day every day! Even though Issey was a big compliment getting and lasted FOREVER on me....I had to sell my bottle because the smell just wasn't something I enjoyed at all. I now own the 2013 summer version and like it much better,(fruity, instead of harsh yuzu and florals)even though there is still a "hint" on the original in the drydown and it doesn't last anywhere near as long.

adg is very pedestrian, so is issey but issey is less pedestrian/popular therefore better imo. both are gigantic best sellers for a reason, but both are less desirable because of their popularity.

Try Dolce & Gabana light blue. it sort of has that ADG vibe but with a bit more spice. The spice in it what really helps carry the longevity longer. D&G LB really lasts and lasts. It is one of my favorite summer fragrances for that reason and it is a major compliment getter.

If the regular is too heavy for you, try one of the summer flankers which are normally less sharp! I also own the summer 2009 one which is beautiful!

One description I'd never give to Issey. It is definitely different to AdG, but it's still a citrus floral aquatic, but opening is more lemony (yuzu) and the drydown is woodier where AdG goes to a nice soft musk.

For some reason, although I think I prefer AdG, I wear Issey much more, especially in the hottest part of summer where AdG just falls apart and becomes a bit of a cloying mess.
    Just say no to oniomania.

AdG has that marine note that smells unpleasant to me.

L'Eau d'Issey just doesn't. I get Yuzu, Verbena, the spicy note, a bit of Geranium and the synthetic but still good smelling Sandalwood. No nasty marine muck.

    Issey for me.
