Default SotD: Sunday 3rd August 2014

    Good morning all !.

Mrs Q, how pleased I was to hear that everything went well on Friday

Teardrop, you know me very well indeed . Spent yesterday in the leafy Kent countryside revelling in the cool breeze which is still keeping things pleasant here today. Managed a detour via Harrods and Fortnums on the way home and managed to come away from the latter with a pile of Montale samples. Fortnums are the first UK outlet to stock the line but the news is not all good. The prices are absolutely ridiculous - where is the justification in charging £145 when the same product can be ordered direct from Montale for between 80 and 100 Euros ?. If I do make any follow up purchases it will be via the Montale website.
Claire, I revisited Black Aoud again and it only served as a reminder that I just can't handle it at all. I bow to it's popularity here but it remains aggressively pungent and vile to my nose. I much prefer the softer and more restrained White Aoud.
I also have a feeling that my reference Amber (Blue Amber) may be about to lose it's crown after sampling Roja Dove's brand new Amber extrait in Harrods - (Bergamot, Geranium, Lavender, Orange, Cocoa, Rose, Amber, Benzoin, Cedarwood, Coumarin, Labdanum, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Vanilla). Simply spectacular.

Gone with a special scent for a special day today - Chypre Palatin..

Off out later celebrating my parents wedding anniversary. Have arranged for a champagne reception at a local seafood restaurant and the menu looks appropriately indulgent. Taxi ordered - no driving today

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Thumbs up Re: SOTD Sunday 3rd August 2014

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Alexandra De Markoff no regrets, the clouds and rain made me want the sweet boozy floral/fruit notes

I knew you'd like this one in that Florida heat :-)

I'm wearing my own MadHat Jour et la Nuit today after sleeping until noon! I haven't done that in so long...but bachelor parties back to back weekends took a lot out of me. Even though last night was a bit more low key.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday!

    Good afternoon, all!

I'm wearing Demeter Lily of the Valley today. This is similar to the 1990s version of Coty Muguet des Bois, but longevity is shorter. It's refreshing and pleasant, not bad for the price.

Hi, everyone! Posting from my phone while waiting for DH to arrive off the Provincetown ferry after riding his 11th Pan Mass Challenge! It's 200 miles in 2 days... On a bike. Money goes to cancer research. I'm smelling luscious (if I do say so myself) in Serge Lutens Santal de Mysore. On me the spice & tiny hint of cumin are fleeting, & the toasted benzoin is the most pronounced. I feel a bit like I've dipped my pulse points in cream soda - but very, very high end cream soda!

Santal de Mysore notes include: Mysore sandalwood, cumin, hot spices, styrax, balsam and Siam benzoin.

PS: Jon, I'm right with you on loving the "softer" Montales, Red Aoud being a favorite of mine. Also love Blue Amber. And now I need to try the Roja Dove... As for ambers, have you tried (& if not can I suggest) Profumum's Fiore d'Ambre?

It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson
