Default Your favorite new releases of 2014...so far

With more than half of 2014 now behind us, what have been your favorite new releases of the year, so far?
    Mine have been

    Vero Profumo Rozy Voile d’Extrait
    Slumberhouse Zahd
    LM Parfums Hard Leather
    Aedes de Venusta Oeillet Bengale
    Oriza L. LeGrand Muguet Fleuri

    in that order*
    (subject to change without notice)

I admit that I have not sampled nearly as widely as many of you, so without doubt my list will look different a year from now. What have I missed?

Stores are always six months to a year behind the times, so I'm still catching up to 2013 must-sniffs.

Zahd was excellent ( I thought it was 2013...? ), but almost a proto-perfume: something about it was goopy and primitive and overwhelming. A friend most kindly sent me a decant, and once I'd used it up, I felt no more yearning for Zahd ( which, as it happens, is no bad thing, given its limited edition status ).

Rozy Voile de Extrait is both impressive and satisfying as a perfume. A classical floriental with a leathery sheen to it; room-filling and rich. A Strauss-opera fragrance. I feel that, purely from a marketing perspective, it shot itself in the foot with the name "Rozy" ( hint: there's no rose ), but from the perspective of a person whose nose loves old Carons, it's a clear winner.

So far, Bogue's MAAI and Bruno Fazzolari's Lampblack (although it was technically 2013). I also liked MiN's Moon Dust, and was impressed by Or du Serail by Naomi Goodsir. MAAI is the frontrunner for me right now though.

Seems like Or du Serail must be growing on you a bit. I'd have to put my ticket in for MAAI with the most interesting and Lampblack with the most pleasing for me; I really liked Phoenicia's RealOud Feral as well.

Or du Serail's not really my thing, but I think it's accomplished. To a degree.

I forgot about Tango, that's definitely at the top of my list of 2014. It's definitely not Montecristo, but a fine amber fragrance that's different enough in a crowded space.

Also, deadidol, you've said enough to convince me into the last spot of Palms split of Or du Serail.

Yikes, you mean you don't have lunchtime visits to the mall, monthly flights to the centre of Paris and your favourite retailer sending you samples through the post regularly?

The new Dior strikes me as worth a second look, Cuir Cannage - quite liked that one.

I haven't come across anything else at all - mind you I haven't got around to the Nornes and Maais and Montecristos and whatnot, which all seem to be pretty popular.

I think 2014 has been the worst year for perfumes in a decade.
Well, still 5 months left to redeem itself.

Thank you for reminding me. Tralala by Penhaligons too. Never went back for the FB though. Bottle design prevented the final wallet opening. Need to start a split possibly. It will be the first split where no one argues about who keeps the bottle.
