Default What Cologne Do You Hate to Admit You Like?

OK...a lot of colognes around here seem to get a bad wrap although they are popular with the public.

So, what cologne do you hate to admit that you really like?

For me, it's Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger - I'm 47, it's a younger man's cologne, it's way too popular, it's way too cheap - but yet I like the fragrance throughout and it can last up to 10 hours on me!

By Kilian Flower of Immortality. The whole Asian Tales line gets a lot of flack on Basenotes, but this one gets a bunch of it.

Other people may see it as "extremely overpriced" and "weak". My nose smells a great light peach fragrance with very good longevity that's perfect for warmer weather and when you don't want a potent fragrance.

Jovan Musk for me. I have always loved this fragrance and still do.

I think you can buy it at your local drug store for around $16 for 5000ml.

Baie de Genievre. It's pretty much the anti-thesis of everything I like in a scent yet it just pulls me in. On the less expensive side, it's gotta be Kenneth Cole Reaction T-Shirt. It's so damn light but the yuzu and fresh linen smell is comforting to me.

    1 Million.

The bottle is juvenile to the point of being embarrassingly tacky, and the sprayer is worse. Whoever designed that awful sprayer needs to be given their 2 week notice of termination, and whoever approved the sprayer's design needs to be fired immediately, escorted out of the building and blacklisted out of the perfume industry. The sprayer is inexcusably bad. That being said... the scent forced me to eat some crow, metaphorically speaking of course. I thought 1 Million was trash because each time I'd smelled it, it was being worn too heavily by one of those idiots who thinks a fragrance should be an olfactory bullhorn that shouts "HEY BAYBEEE!!! HEY EVRAHBUDDY!!!! LOOK'A ME!!!!" My god, it always smelled so bad. So Bad. SO BAD!!! ...however... One day, I smelled something very nice being worn by an older gentleman, and my jaw dropped the next day when I was at Sephora and I realized the man had been wearing... 1 Million?!?!? WOW! 1 Million is a scent that, if worn heavily, can be downright sickening... but that's not a fair way to judge. I love Tabasco, but dumping a whole bottle of Tabasco on something would be painful. A glass of wine is delicious. Another is tasty too. But if you've pounded your way through two bottles, you're probably going to be sick. 2 sprays of 1 Million is more than plenty. 5 sprays or more is one big yuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Enchanted Forest got quite a bit of hate on BN when it first came out, but I really like it. In fact, it might be time for me to revisit that one.

Not any, really. A lot of budget fragrances have great ideas that just aren't quite executed well enough ( Dana's Tabu is just a decent budget away from greatness ), and the budget colognes I like are just that, colognes ( e.g. 4711 or Florida Water ), that do a brief refreshment quite well enough.

If a cheapo scent was a symphonic masterpiece I would be as happy as anyone and broadcast it to the world.

    Nice!

Still I never describe fragrances as "shit". I guess we don't use the same vocabulary in the same circumstances.

Oh man, sooooooo many!lol But I'll just say most of the Ed Hardy scents for men and just leave it at that!

Apart from seconding the Ed Hardy scents, One Million and its Intense flanker, also occasionally into Drakkar Noir, as well as affordable fragrances along the lines of 4711.

Another vote for 1 Million Intense. (Don't like the original, however - the mint note ruins it for me.)

Looking forward to wearing it again in cold weather.

EDIT: After posting this, I decided to wear it today (August, shmaugust...). Now that it's dried down, I remember what's so delicious about this frag - the strong leather note!

Since the fragrance house of Jacques Bogart was mentioned within another thread: One Man Show (not popular on BN, but still good in my strictly personal opinion).

Sometimes, you'll have a member that's being real obnoxious in professing their love for a fragrance. I'd love to say "that fragrance sucks," but sometimes I actually like the fragrance and I don't wanna be disingenuous. Some of those fragrances:
    1Million
    Dior Homme
    Any oud fragrance
    Any vintage fragrance
    Seasonal rotation:

    Ciel Man
    Windsor
    Scandal Pour Homme
    Santal Imperial
    Millesime Imperial
Currently wearing: Santal Impérial by Creed

Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger is great to my nose. I last wore it in 1992 though!! Still, cheap as chips and very nice scent overall. It's not popular at all this side of the pond.

Aramis by Aramis isn't bad either. As is 1881 by Cerruti. Jacques Bogart as well.

I'm not embarrassed about liking the my guilty pleasures (Acqua di Gio, Cool Water, most Kenneth Cole fragrances, or even Aventus). The one and only fragrance that I'm sometimes ashamed to wear is Moon Sparkle for Men by Escada, but only because of the name. About 6 or 7 years ago, a female colleague ask me what I was wearing, and I told her the name. She died laughing and went on for what felt like hours about how "no man should ever wear something called Moon Sparke!" She still jokes about it even today! Now when I wear it and get a compliment, I just say, "Escada."
