One word about how people react to scent- I feel the desired effect is to get someone to want to lean in closer to wonder "What is that delightful aroma?" Not crane their heads around and try to figure out "Where that smell is coming from".

Try LaCoste-Essential for a lighter cologne-type scent. It is fresh and citrus but not aquatic.

I believe Pi has a great deal of vanilla up front. It is a sweeter scent.

Can someone reccomend a summer woody fragrance? I cant seem to find one, all of the ones I have seen are mostly winter/fall.

You might like to consider vetivers or even dry Iris.
My husband likes Etro- Sandalo (light sandalwood) or you might like Chanel- Bois des Iles (sandalwood that smells like gingerbread).

The chanel is for women and the sandalo is for fall and winter. Any summer woody ones, I cant stand aquatics.

Lots of men wear the Chanel. I don't think you'll find much for summer if you are not in the mood for those notes. Try looking at vetiver and dry Iris.

Vetiver is nice. Have any recommendations for some colognes with vetiver? Also, how does the 2014 givenchy gentleman compare with the vintage one, in your opinion?

You could try Heeley- Cardinal, Diptique- Tam Dao (woody)
Parfumerie Generale- Querelle (Vetiver) and some of these have beautiful amber scents you might like. I'll check to see which ones. You can try samples at LuckyScent.

    +1 Green Irish Tweed

I've been playing with a sample of Mancera Wind Wood and I would suggest giving that a smell.

Ok thanks kumquat. What bottle is good for git, the black one or the lighter colored one?

Ah, I've opened a can of worms now. I'll have to do some research on Vetiver. One thing nice about Luckyscent is you can click on 'fragrances' and then pick one like 'vetiver' and all the scents with that note will come up for you to see.

PS- my favorite Vetiver now is 'Tom Ford-Grey Vetiver' smooth and creamy. Kind of expensive. Maybe you could get a split. Check the split boards.

I saw a black bottle and a relitavely clear bottle. Which one smells better? Have you smelt the reformulated givencht gentleman vs the new one? I think the newer one is less grandpa like or strong and is more patchouli dominant with not too much leather. Apparently the longetivity is bad with the new one. I have so far with the vintage one 16 hours but you can barely smell it. It is now a skin scent. Which one do you and your husband prefer and why?

Oh, you mean Green Irish Tweed? I don't think it matters. They are different sizes, I think.

I haven't smelled the newer version of Givenchy Gentleman. I can only assume it is not very strong and does not have oak moss. The new formulas don't and that is what is missing- why they lack depth and longevity.

I see Givenchy has a new one called Givenchy Vetiver. You might check reviews and see what you can find. It looks interesting. I have one of that series (new) and it is different from the old but very charming and good.

I looked at it. Its apparently stronger than tf grey vetiver. The vintage, once again, is apparently better than the reformulation. What are the top 3 patchouli, woody, leathery, piney scents, in your opinion?

I'm not very well-versed in men's scents. I can tell you about some I know of.
Mazzolari-Mazzolari or for straight up patchouli- Mazzolari Lui I also happen to like Mazzolari Vetiver but it may be too floral for some men.YMMV

Montale- Patchouli Leaves is green patchouli- very intense and hard to describe. Unique and fresh.

MPG- Route De Vetiver may be to your liking.

Derby (Guerlain) is worth looking into, IMO. It is a chypre. Very dignified and smooth.

I get a lot more Lime than woods in Guerlain Homme l'Eau Boisée.

TRY! Gucci Rush or Sartoriale by Pal Zileri for a less expensive substitute. Very woody and great unique fragrances.

Initially, it's pretty well balanced and I can see why you'd say that. But give it a solid wearing. After 30 minutes, the lime fades and the vetiver takes over and dominates the remaining handful of hours. I agree 100% with MrMookie's review of L'Eau Boisee.

As far as liking Polo Green, I would also look into John Varvatos Vintage if you haven't sampled it. To me, it comes off as a modern take on the classic Polo theme. It has fir, suede, tobacco, & patchouli with a sweet/tart berry note in the opening (rhubarb & juniper berry). It can really be worn by any age group, but definitely was influenced by classic scents like Polo Green.

Ah yes, a good suggestion. It is like Polo meets Burberry London. More of an autumn fragrance though.

Thanks. I ll try and find it. I like burberry london a lot except its longetivity (which sucks).
