Really? You find Noir de Noir and Lyric Man more masculine that LDDM?

The question is not whether you like it or not. It doesn't bother me at all, I just found it strange. Was hoping you'd explain why you thought LDDM was more feminine than the other 2.

I didn't notice the person that gave it a 4, but that's mind-boggling to me. The only one he rates more feminine than LDDM is Back to Black.

I've tried many rose based fragrances in my life, and many (most?) of them make me visualize fresh, pink, delicate rose flower - very girly - or a super concentrated rose-heavy elixir that screams "grandma perfume" to me. NdN and Lyric Man for some reason feel more masculine to me - they are neither delicate pink roses, nor rose extraits that fit ladies of certain age. I'm more familiar with NdN as I own a bottle, and to me - this one is a very rich, dark red rose, dipped in top shelf port wine (like Shafer Vinyards Port - d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s.!!!), then dipped in dark bitter chocolate.

Can it be worn by a woman? Absolutely. But when it comes to the rose, it feels more masculine - to me. YMMV.

I agree with that assessment. Smokey vetiver is more manly than sweet vanilla.

What makes it feminine? It often gets compared to Creed's Original Vetiver, do you find that one feminine also?

Probably because it has that classic, old school (but modernized, in this case) basic, clean, "men's cologne" scent? Neroli/bergamot - that's basic ingredients for some of the oldest men's colognes, from 4711 forward (in production since 1792!). Yes, MC can be called perfectly unisex, but its base is squarely in men's cologne territory - and when I say "cologne", I don't mean "fragrance", "parfum", "eau de toilette", etc, I mean the actual "cologne" fragrance category, not concentration of fragrance.

No, I have Original Vetiver and it is quite masculine to my nose. My wife wouldn't wear it. But she will wear Muglers Cologne which I won't wear (and it smells quite good on her).

Interesting observation thanks. 4711 I've always thought slightly feminine too, though it's been so ubiquitous over the years (e.g in aircraft towelette fresheners) that I mainly think it generic nowadays.

Perceptions can change - I used to think Eau De Hadrian was plainly feminine, till I was in a hotel room in Paris where all the toiletries provided were Eau De Hadrian ones. After a week of using them (because I had to) I got quite used to it and suddenly thought it unisex. Though I've never used it since (even though I have a bottle of it somewhere, that I picked up for $20).
    Regards,
    Renato

Hey, Old Spice used to be marketed to women when it first came out, it wasn't until much later that the marketing switched things around and it became "man scent." Same goes for pink and blue colors for girls and boys - pink used to be the strong masculine scent for boys, and blue was the delicate, soft color for girls. That changed in the past 2-3 decades or so, now we think the completely opposite. Perceptions (helped hugely by marketing) can indeed change...

Eau de Hadrien... ah.... Try Hadrien Absolu, I think you may like it more, or Les Nuits d'Hadrien - even more 'manly', evening scent.

    Cheers,

I'm female and L'air du desert morocain definitely smells more feminine on me than say noir de noir. The vanilla, lemon, coriander & jasmin feels like a very airy fresh scent on me whereas theres something in noir de noir that makes it a masculine scent and i believe this may be the oud. The two aren't that dissimilar by any means but NDN smells darker to me.

So what did we learn from all this? That the only one that we universally agree on is CK One - it has no "gender." I guess Calvin Klein got it just right when he released CK One in 1994 as one of the first big, mainstream, unisex fragrances. It was pretty 'controversial' back then... I remember it clearly... got a bottle as soon as it came out, lol... Good memories, good times...

I can't lie, I think CK One is a masterpiece and kinda paved the road for other unisex fragrances. Just goes to show how brilliant Alberto Morillas is.

    2. Roja Dove Sultanate of Oman
    3. MFK Baccarat Rouge 540

Agreed, remik. CK One brings me great memories, too.
