Question Timeless Classic... Versus... Dated Fragrance ?

Which fragrances would you class as dated, as opposed to timeless ?
I personally would class Chanel No.5 as a timeless classic. I would also class Kouros as timeless, but perhaps many would perceive it as dated ?

What do you consider timeless and what do you consider dated ?

David - I don't find any fragrance as dated, but that's just me...

    As for timeless:
Men - Mouchoir de Monsieur / Eau Sauvage / Chanel Pour Monsieur for men
    Women - Jicky, Shalimar, Chanel N0 5

Almost any answers to this questions may be more or less subjective, personal etc.

    Will try to answer:

Classic- Armani Eau PH, YSL PH, Boucheron PH
Dated- perhaps some of the Marbert fragrances, by Antonio Puig, Mäurer&Wirtz, mainly along these lines

Polo Green might be dated, but Polo Crest is classic.

In simple terms A scent that has 70's 80's vibe with Antiquate smell, not that is bad. its all subjective to what you've been expose to in your lifetime personally as you can arrive at this by smelling a recent scent that gives you a vibe in the note that overtakes fragrance that you've snell before on your "uncle Bob" in the 70s in family gatherings.

I agree totally badarun. Dated doesn't exist for me either, (especially as a collector of older fragrances !). The reason I am asking this question is because in my thread regarding L'Home Ideal, several people suggested that Guerlain should not be seen to produce anything that may be considered "dated". This really got me thinking, because I personally don't find any fragrance dated, although I can understand why others may think differently.
Interestingly, perhaps a young guy who has never before smelled, (random example)....Knize Ten, may actually perceive it as refreshingly different or even cutting edge compared to the majority of mainstrem fragrances on offer at this moment in time - simply because of its uniqueness by comparison.
It seems basenoters are divided on this.

If a person were to have no experience or reference point as to what fragrances used to smell like and what they smell like now would they call something dated? Or would they just like one and dislike another. Something is dated only in the mind of the beholder!

This is almost too subjective to answer.

For all of the people saying Polo Green is dated...I'm a 30 year old professional who works at a somewhat trendy financial company, with plenty of other younger people. To this day, Polo Green is hands down still my #1 most complimented fragrance. I don't wear it often any more, but almost without fail, when I do, I am either told "you smell good" or asked what I'm wearing. And that is from one spray to the chest, under my shirt.

And to me, half of the fragrances being listed on here as timeless or classic are extremely "old man" smelling. And I can almost absolutely state that I would get that kind of feedback if I were to wear one of them.

So I think it really depends on too many factors and too many opinions to be a worthwhile discussion.

    Completely agree.
Some scents just scream "grandpa's armpit".
