Default Advice for a college student

I'm new to the technical aspects of what defines a good cologne and what makes it imitation. I'm looking for a good winter scent that would draw compliments from strangers. I don't too much care for scents similar to Nautica Voyage or light watery smells. I don't assume that's a good definition, but again I'm new to this. I want a scent that woman lust, but isn't too strong that it cant be worn out on a date night.

    Additional details:

    Im 20 and in college
I like mature scents but nothing too mature that women my age wouldn't find appealing.

Thanks for any and all advice!

Thanks for the recommendations! I've seen these floating around many of the threads. I also would like to add that I am looking for a warmer scent. I love the way certain scents like Obsession by Calvin Klein can give a sort of warm smell. This wouldn't be my favorite scent by any means, nor would I be looking for something similar to it. Just something similar to that warm smell.

Warm notes include woods, vanilla, and amber. So something in this territory. If you can get up to $85, I recommend Chanel Egoiste (the regular Egoiste, not Platinum Egoiste), which smells like sandalwood, warm, slightly sweet, smooth.
