I won't add a certain fragrance because my "It" or "The" fragrance is for me... Not everyone else...

I personally find Tobacco heavy frags to be the most interesting in cold weather, so my vote goes to Journey Man by Amouage. In warm weather it's a tie between super fruity/strong Aventus and Uden.

Everybody will have different tastes so there really can't be a best fragrance of them all. Saying that I know Clive Christian No. 1 Pure Perfume for Men ($2,350) is the world's most expensive Mens Fragrance. I'd love to sample it.

The convenience of participating pushes me into current release designers, I mean, current threads.

There's a few folks that still post breakdowns, impressions and information like they "used" to do back when I first signed up. I loved how some folks really were either connected to the industry or connected to the artistry and it shined through their posts and the folks that went head to head with every mention of Creed were minor.

Now, that's the norm. But the hate for Bond No. 9 seems to have remained the same.

With that said, vintage Basenotes wasn't really all that different from now. Enjoy it for it is... a bunch of folks that enjoy fragrance. Contribute to the good, not the bad.

Green Irish Tweed is the closest thing I can think of that fits the bill.

Since you said up front "smells really good to you", you're not looking for a universal scent. Good. It's impossible.

For me it would be Vie de Chateau Intense

Chanel Bleu is the definitive masculine fragrance of a generation. The way it has overcome initial negative reactions and has gathered backers slowly is a sign of high quality, innovative juice.

Among the masses it appears to be ADG. Among the Basenoters it appears to be Aventus.

TdH is probably one of the most controversial fragrances out there. Granted its performance is pretty indisputable though. To me, it smells like oranges gone bad for most of the time. Now the EDP is much better, but lacks something..Too woodsy and peppery, needs something added to it, but please, not a spoiled orange!

As for the OP's question. To be honest, I haven't found anything that is extremely versatile, long lasting, is unique and gets compliments. I think Burberry London might be it, if it projected more, and lasted a little longer. I find London to be very versatile already, great in the heat, even better in the cold. Fahrenheit if the gasoline note lasted longer, but not vintage Fahrenheit style. Although vintage was remarkable, the current stuff is far more wearable, I just wish the gasoline accord lasted longer, because that's my favorite part.

Sadly I think the closest to a perfect fragrance is Cool Water, including how cheap it can be acquired for, it just gets a bit boring to me.

I know there is no such thing. This is solely for fun and to get your opinions on it, IF it existed which it doesn't. For me, it's DHI probably, just because Aventus is too "cologne" for me, otherwise it would be it.

There are four if you ask me but are not for sale:
    1. the smell of fresh baked bread
    2. the smell of the earth after the first drops of rain during a long, hot mediterranean summer
    3. the smell of the mediterranean pine forests in the summer
    4. the incredible smell of the myrrh
