Default La Collection des Essences by Elie Saab

Has anyone smelled these? I see Francis Kurkdjian is the perfumer for all 4 and they're only available (in store) at Harrods or at Elie Saab boutiques correct?

    Notes (copied from Style.com/arabia):

Essence No. 1 Rose is intended to be the rose of “a thousand faces” and is replete with layers of Centifolia and Damask roses, along with the essences of Turkish and Bulgarian roses, and the absolutes of roses from Grasse and Turkey. Essence No. 2 Gardenia is an olfactory trompe l’oeil shaped from the duality of wood tones and floral notes fortified with Egyptian Sambac jasmine and Indian sandalwood. Meanwhile, Essence No. 3 Ambre, which Mrs. Saab is said to favor along with a topping spritz of Essence No. 1 Rose, is the tribute piece and pays homage to Saab’s glittering couture work with notes of opopanax, patchouli, and sandalwood. The final fragrance in this series is Essence No. 4 Oud, composed of black pepper, benzoin, and agar wood.

    The gardenia one sounds great.

The bottles seem sort of Chanel-ish, no?

I have no idea how much the prices are...

I've been looking for prices and availability of these but nothing...
I read good reviews for the amber and the oud.

It appears they are only available in their own stores, none of which are in the US.

Yet another exclusive/prive collection, again, as current form, with single note names on them. I almost have the temptation to ignore them, as a matter of principle.

I'd be interested in trying the Oud,

    Huh
    This is old news.

They've been out here for at least 6 months now..

    Tried them briefly.

    Nice enough to retry extensively.

If you've smelled the old Elie Saab ones, Francis maintained the same level & slightly better even.

    I liked Gardenia.

How's the Oud one? No reviews in the database. Luca Turin gives it 4 stars though: http://arabia.style.com/beauty/beaut...erde-guerlain/

This Elie Saab is an example of a modern oud. I have not been overly impressed with Elie Saab’s mass market fragrances so far, but this Essences series is something altogether different and laudable: a niche line that actually lives up to its promise of quality. Composed by the excellent Francis Kurkdjian, this oud is very close in spirit to Armani’s Bois d’Encens (2004), with a tremendous incense and elemi uplift balancing out the oud’s earthbound tendencies, and some very discreet woody-floral notes in there to faintly remind one of Lutens’s original Bois de Violette (1992). Impeccably elegant both on men and women, and probably best sprayed on fabric to safeguard the complexity of the topnote accord.
    This sound promising.

there is currently very limited distribution....this is from their site....posting the link just takes you to the homepage so I typed it in

Hong Kong, France, Switzerland, UAE, Lebanon, UAE: Boutique

Germany: Douglas and Kaufhas Des Westens

    Italy: Profumeria Camurati

    Saudi Arabia: Harvey Nichols

    UK: Harrods

    UAE:Bloomingdales

At Harrods it is retailing for GBP 165, it only comes in a 100ml bottle.

The OUD is very subtle compared to other scents on the market. Comes across like insecticide to me honestly

The Amber is very strong as sticks around well over a day. There is a lot more going on there than just Amber thought despite the single note naming.

The Santal smells exactly as Comme des Garsons Wonderwood. I mean sandalwood is not strong here, more cedar + vetiver + sandalwood combination. However, Elie Saab is more milky, fresher than Wonderwood. The longevity is wonderful.

I've seen them briefly at Mlaga airport, but not testers were out. I was pretty bummed since I'd love to try the line, especially the Vetiver.

Yes. I blind bought it recently. THE best blind buy of my 30 blind buys, the best (real laotian) oud in my collection as of today.
    A masterpiece. Really.
An eastern oud style oud leveled western style (elegant, not rough in-your-face).
At $55 online, it's a no brainer. Good that there are people who ignores this line, there will be more stocks left for me.

Im thinking of blind buying some of those, but would like to avoid the super feminine ones. In your opinion - is there any of these that leans more to the feminine side than others?

At the moment there are 6 discounted in my country (but no testers available): Rose, Vetiver, Gardenia, Tuberose, Neroli and Oud - so Im mostly looking for opinions on these (although others might come in my way later, so include althea you tried). Thanks in advance!

Rose, Gardenia, and Tuberose are definitely feminine.
Ambre, Vetiver and Neroli are unisex (yes, even the vetiver)
    Santal leans masculine
    Oud is definitely masculine
Never tried Amande Tonka, but my guess is that it leans feminine.

I own and love ambre, oud, vetiver and santal.
I tried neroli, just a like for me.

Of the ones you listed, I'd get vetiver and oud. That said, again, this one is one of the few vetivers that I find really unisex, as it has a powdery drydown. That said, I m a fan of vetiver frags, and this one is in my top 5. This collection is really a great bang-for-the-bick if you can get it at discounted prices.
