Prada Amber Pour Homme, something about it just turns me off. Maybe the powdery aspect, or the confusing notes. Soapy, but in a polarizing way

Wearing that right now. An awful fragrance to blind buy for sure. I tried it in Sephora and HATED it for 10 min - then kept smelling it and was hooked. I bought a bottle and haven't yet had an occasion to wear it out, nor do I like it as much as I did that do, I think I may try layering it with a vanilla scent or tuscan leather.

Ralph Lauren Romance for men. Saw a 50ml bottle at my local perfume shop for 54 euros. Knowing it is discontinued and it gets some love in the forums, i bought it blind. What a mistake. Must be one of the most synthetic, rancid and unwereable fragrances I've tried.

Used to be Zino by Davidoff, but now understand it.

By far the worst, and no remedy in sight, is Lalique pour Homme (EdP). I like almost every fragrance to a degree; this one is pure-strain dated, old man funk.

Mine used to be Skin On Skin by L'AP, but I've got that sussed and love it now. Aside from that, my worst now would be - and mercifully it's only a decant - Montale Mukhallat. Like strawberry milkshake syrup. Vile.

Bentley Intense. Hype and comparison to Idole made me buy it blind. It is nothing like Idole and is revolting synthetic mess. Hype was helpful as I was able to sell it off easily.

For now, and it's not bad, but the worst of my blind buys nevertheless, Shiseido Basara - rather too sweet for my liking and the only fragrance I own that can almost make me feel a little nauseous too. One of those I may come back to in a few weeks/months and try again.

A decant-sized sample (thank god not a full bottle) of Montale Roses Musk.

Black Orchid comes in close second, although I'm ready to revisit that--something tells me I might like it this time around.

Creed Royal Water! When I first got it out of the packaging (bought it at a relatively good price from a fellow BN'er) and sniffed it, I immediately regretted it. Even tho all the reviews said this was unisex, I got this powdery old woman vibe that made me swear off of perfumes for a while. Decided that day that I would have to sell it eventually.

Oddly enough, however, I grew to like it over time. Started testing it out, using different application points. Eventually settled on a simple formula: 2 sprays to the chest and thats it. Any more than that, you might just choke out an entire room. I really started to appreciate it for the complexity and uniqueness. I don't wear it often, but when I do, I really enjoy it. The more fragrances I try, the more this one seems to stand in a league of it's own. It's a rare gem that I will have in my collection for a long time.

Fougeres Marine by Montale. And a full 100 mL bottle of it.

The only fragrance in history that gave me heartburn - not to mention that Tommy does the concept better at a fraction of the price.
It's really quite pleasant, except for the smell (...)

Prada Amber Pour Homme by Prada

Sadly it was a balsamic powdery floral mess. I don't mind floral, I don't mind balsamic and I don't mind powdery but this combination - just no.
I gave it away to a female co-worker who enjoyed it.

I blind swapped for it and was not happy! I think I traded D&G Pour Homme for it, if I remember correctly.

Grey Flannel. When I got seriously interested in perfumes a couple of years ago, I started out blind buying a couple of cheapies that came well recommended by the community (or at least I thought so at the time). Grey Flannel was one of them. No offense to anyone who enjoys this but this is not only my worst blind buy but also the most foul perfume I have yet to smell. The only one that comes close is Horizon by Guy Laroche, another regret from the same haul.

I love it, but especially when layered with TF Noir Extreme the vanilla powdery tobacco mixes in really well.

I never had a blind-buy disaster. My 'worst one' though (hich I still don't find to be objectively 'bad') is SJP's Covet, which although I can appreciate, is not for me. Having said that, I need to revisit it since I find that my tastes change throughout the times.

Another one who has never actually had one.

I do my homework, making sure I know the notes then read all reviews I can find. Finally just go with my gut feeling knowing I will like it.

Amouage Fate was supposed to be a winner judging by the notes...it wasn't sadly. All I got was heaps of rancid talcum powder in a pair of old granny bloomers, I'm shuddering at the thought.

My most successful blind buy is still a firm favourite today, Gucci Eau de Parfum, you know the brown one in the square bottle. I somehow knew exactly what that would smell like just going off the notes and reviews, so weird when that happens.

My worst was Chergui by Serge Lutens. I like this so much... and I was excited to get it based on the notes. And then I discovered that my wife hates it. she can't even be around it. Oh well. lesson learned for me -- make sure the wife likes it first!

What a shame. My wardrobe is full of fragrances my better half doesn't like - if I were to get rid of everything that is too offensive, I'd be left with 40% of my collection! What works for me very well is to wear those fragrances at work and on business trips, and shower once I'm home.

As shocking as this is going to sound to a lot of people and I know this one gets a lot of love here on Basenotes, it has to be Penhaligon's Ostara for me. Rancid, rotten daffodils mixed with a stale cheese note. I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy it, and I did try, atleast around 4 or 5 times, made me gag every single time, after which I gave it to my sister and she loves it!
