    Ex Nihilo - Love Shot

This is really pleasant. It's calming. I can't quite describe it, it's apparently changed quite a bit in the few minutes I've had it on. Like a powdery dusty sweetness. It smells familiar, but I can't figure out to what.

Perhaps a good signature scent for someone.

    Tiziana Terenzi - Dionisio

Pretty good! Vanilla with a fuzzy static-y aspect attached to it, and a funky/cheesy oud (but not TOO funky!)

Edit: Hm, the fuzzy static-y aspect might be from the ambergris? Might give a similar feel as norlimbanol or whatever it is in magnetic cap of Epic Man in the opening, that ugly fuzzy aspect. In FEEL, not in smell. Like a screechy-ness?

    Alchimista - Nefertum

It smells familiar, but different. Like a 90's 'cologne' you'd smell on a middle-aged guy passing by. But then it's different. Apparently has oud, synthetic most likely(?). It's not a heavy smell. Has a bit of a woody smell to it as well, like new furniture - not sure if that's coming from the 'oud' or not.

Not bad. But then again, I did just put it on.

Commodity Vetiver - loved it! Great longevity, projection and nothing like the reviews I read or what I expected a vetiver fragrance to be like.
Commodity Bergamot - weak, boring, cheap-smelling. And the reviews were so good...

I think the original Blue is solid, but not really great. I'm not crazy about blue fragrances in general. But the Parfum version is really good! As others have said it has a lot more depth to it.

    Houbigant - Bois Mystique

I'm not too fond of incense frags, or rather the more monotone/shrill/plain type of incense frags like... Sahara Noir or Bois d'Encens.

This though.. is pretty good! It has that typical incense smell to it, but then there's a backbone of sweetness - myrrh?

Will hold on to this sample for a while longer.. further testing,

This has also moved to my to-buy list. Not too high, but definitely on my radar. I have quite a bit of my sample left also, so will spend some more time with it.

Over the last few months I've been on a classic fragrances trip.

I've tried lots of different things but the style that really stands out for me are the real masculine classics e.g. Quorum, Paco Pour Homme and Sung Homme are my favourites.

I've tried samples of most other things from this period and the only other one that has made it on my want list is Azzaro Pour Home, until now.

One that I hadn't really liked the sound of was Halston Z14, but I got a sample anyway. Wow.

While the opening I wasn't too keen on, it dries down to one of the most satisfying scents I've ever smelt. Soapy, leathery and ultra masculine with just a hint of citrus.

Goes straight in to the top of my list. Will be ordering a bottle next week.

A good, but not great, cheapie.

Bright Neroli is surprisingly loud for a citrusy summer fragrance, so those looking for performance above all else may find a lot to admire about how this wears, but it's also a somewhat blunt creation. Bright Ferrari's balance of notes is appealing, but it's ultimately too direct and unsophisticated in its construction to quite win me over.

    BLACK ORIENT

Not as similar to Bvlgari Man in Black as reviews had led me to believe! Man in Black was an odd bit of engineering from Morillas; all the notes seemed to fit on paper but didn't really seem to be conversing with one another when you actually smelled it.

I expected this flanker to be a refinement on the same formula, and, to an extent, it is; Black Orient shares some core DNA with MIB, but the effect is altogether different. Black Orient dispenses with MIB's florals, adds some gentle oud, and ups the spices. The result is a more focused, darker concoction than MIB.

I really dig it! Not a masterpiece, but a solid entry in the category of the opulent boozy-leather masculine that lives up to its name.

    Amouage Myths Man

Technically my second time smelling it, but the first time I washed it off right away, so ... Anyway, I'm glad I gave it another shot. The opening is rough, but after about 30 minutes it starts to get really nice. A great, "cool"-smelling combination of creamy and ashy notes. Really unique.

Guerlain - Eau de Guerlain -> Way beyond my expectation. I was expecting "just another" cologne style fragrance, but this one had something so refined and elegant I think I fell in love with it. There's an effortlessness to this which makes this one pure class.

Guerlain - Oud Essentiel -> Didn't like it. The oud came across a bit screechy, and is not really to my liking. A bit in the same vain as Incense oud from Nicolai, but not nearly as good in my oppinion.

Guerlain - Bois Mysterieux -> Spectacular opening, then after half an hour or so and the leather is getting more and more prominent I'm starting to lose interest. Still very good, but not sure if this is my thing anymore.

Guerlain - Encens Mythique -> This smelled very clean, not what I expected at all looking at the notes. Again maybe a quality fragrance, but definitely not my style.

Guerlain - Cuir Intense -> Very good leather fragrance. I think I like this one most from the Orient line I tried. The leather reminded me a bit of Cuir Ottoman from Parfum d'Empire. I do rate that one definately higher though.

Guerlain - Santal Royal -> Also the last one I tried from the Orient line didn't really wow me. I thought it was bland and uninspiring.

All in all the sample that had been been thrown in as in extra to my order (Eau de Guerlain) was in the end the one that really spoke to me. This now got me really interested in the other classic eau's like Eau de Coq, Mouchoir de Monsieur and Eau Imperiale

YSL Le Nuit Homme - pretty nice, I see its attraction for both men and women. Strikes as sensual/attractive/s*xy hence it's popularity. For the lie of me was wondering what it reminds me of - Lanvin Avant Garde!! Less the beeswax and plus pepper. Big on projection and sticks around.
YSL Jazz - Wow proper old school aftershavey aroma - reminds me of Pecksniffs Classic with a bit more substance and body.
YSL Rive Gauche - again (!) this is proper. Like getting my niffer on it again prior to moving to my 'hot' list! Shaving soapy goodiness.
TF Fouger D'Argent - just got a pepperyness and not else much? Was this meant to be a 'new' RG?!

Not sure. The sample wasn't advertised as a vintage formulation, so probably a recent formulation if I had to guess.

It certainly projected enough and smelled full and high quality if that helps. But I just didn't like the rose note in there.

    Antonio Puig - Sybaris

So, I went and bought a little mini of this in hopes of finding another love. The comparison to Chanel Pour Monsieur & Kouros (my #1) piqued my interest.

Well... this doesn't quite remind me of Kouros.

However, in an unexpected turn of events, this heavily reminds me of Balenciaga Pour Homme (but not as strong, and perhaps with a small dash of cumin or something?). And immediately before writing this review I searched a review page to see if there's any mention of BpH in comparison to this - and yep, there is! Bingo.

I wouldn't be real surprised if Balenciaga Pour Homme took Sybaris as the inspiration/foundation for itself.
