Burnt Amber by Neil Morris perhaps would fit what you are looking for.

Monotheme Amber Wood is worth a go, it puts me in mind of Amber Absolute but much more toned down.
Currently wearing: Green Irish Tweed by Creed

Not at all. A nice dry amber. Projection and longevity are very good.

The smokiest thing i have tried is Embers by Rouge Bunny Rouge. Not sure about smoke and amber though.

Well, the king of smoke and amber (regardless of "niche" or "designer") is Tom Ford Amber Absolute. But it has been discontinued. I am not sure how difficult it is to find these days.

Next up would be Armani Prive Ambre Orient (depending on how you define "designer", but Armani certainly is). Another option (but again an expensive designer), Tom Ford Sahara Noir.

If by designer, you really mean inexpensive, perhaps Zirh Ikon would scratch that itch.
    Current Winter Favorites:
    1. House of Matriarch - Blackbird
    2. Brückner - Aoud 1
    3. Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Generation Man
    4. Xerjoff - Wabar
    5. Creed - Royal Oud
    6. Ormonde Jayne - Black Gold
    7. Armani Privé - Oud Royal
    8. Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 - Mortal Skin
    9. by Kilian - Straight to Heaven
    10. Creed - Royal English Leather

There is also the Silhouette from the same colletion, but Embers, indeed, is smokier.

Bleu de Chanel EDP. It took me few wearings to understand this fragrance. The transition from the opening to the heart and base is pretty radical. The opening is similar to the EDT, albeit smoother, but the drydown is rich amber, incense, and vetiver. I'm not a fan of the EDT but the EDP is really great IMO.

I could only think of Interlude Man, but that is not designer.

Prada Amber pour Homme Intense is a great fragrance, but it doesn't come across as particularly smokey to me. You could look into Ambre Precieux - while not a designer, it can still be had for designer prices if you shop around.

Naomi Goodsir is a designer line, so I'd throw Bois D'Ascese from her collection into the ring. It's more smoke than amber, but it has a great warmth to it.
