    Default Fallen out of love

With all the discussion on fragrances we want to sniff, what are the fragrances in your current wardrobe you no longer love?

    My list would be:

    - ASAQ Rouh al Aoud
    - By Kilian Criminal of Love
    - Creed Aventus and Millesime Imperial ... gasp!
    - Dior Homme Parfum
    - Frederic Malle Geranium pour Monsieur ... this one cuts through the heat like a cold knife, that said the mint and white musk are a little too strong.
    - MDCI Invasion Barbare
    - Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet
    - Roja Parfums NUWA ... the cumin bomb
    - YSL M7 vintage ... i know blasphemy
    - YSL Opium PH

That's 11 fragrances out of 111, not too bad!

YSL Opium pour homme edp - I still love the top but not the base. Coromandel is my oriental fragrance of choice these days.

YSL La Nuit de L'Homme - I'm not out of love, but I recently thought Dior Ambre Nuit could be an upgrade. The jury's out.

Vero Profumo Onda edp. Loved it the first 2 wears, then it was just too fecal.
Do you all think that wearing a fragrance too much can cause one to dislike it? The old saying, "familiarity breeds contempt."?

This would be too painful to answer as then my compulsion to colognes and perfumes would come to an end. wink. Have to contemplate this one and ruminate on it for awhile as I go through stages and moods and flow-Ones I used to love as a university student were the CK frags but I can't stand CK now. Answer: A plethora of them as it keeps the hobby fun in search of the Holy Grail fragrance or the next one that makes me go "Wow." P.S. I know there is no Holy Grail scent as that is one thing of many which I've learned from you awesome Basenoters. Addendum: Aventus? That one will be always a staple, but who knows? P.P.S. Creed's Silver Mountain Water and CK anything.

There are none I don't love, but many I rarely use simply because of lack of opportunity.

Not so much right now as I've become more selective but years ago I did have a lot of scents I just got tired of. This included anything with prominent iso-e super like Terre d'Hermes and anything blatantly synthetic smelling. I actually got sensitized to iso-e and simply couldn't stand it at all, now it's better and a touch of it can be ok. From the experience I got a better idea what sort of fragrance would eventually bother me and I am way pickier about what I purchase.

None. If I stopped loving it, it would be gone quickly.

Funny, I was just about to post a thread about 180 degree turns in the opposite way ...
Anyway, sadly I'm no longer crazy about YSL Cinema and Hypnotic Poison Eau Sensuelle. And yes they're blander than others from their fragrance group. But I did enjoy them well for a long time without wearing them out.

Does anyone find they fall in love again in these cases?

A rare shout out for an under-the-radar Calvin Klein fragrance? I'll keep an eye out for a tester bottle.

I had a short but intense fling with Santi Burgas Lotree until i was suddenly fed up with what now seems like a unbearably monotone drydown.
It was like being heads over heels for three dates, than realizing your dream partner only knew one joke and never got tired of it.
And the joke was the "you wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world"-noise from Dumb Dumber.

I got rid of most of the dead weight in my collection about two months ago. Some fragrances, though, are a seasonal affair - Midnight in Paris and Back to Black are strict fall/winter scents while Mugler Cologne and L'Humaniste are spring/summer scents.

The only one that I don't love now is Ananas Fizz, which is on the sale board because it's way too fruity. Think that Aventus has too much pineapple? This stuff has a lot more. (Since it's discontinued, if you love pineapple, get it while you can.)
It's really quite pleasant, except for the smell (...)

Very few loves in my collection, but many likes. I've decided to just sit tight and just enjoy them as I get to them. Not in a real rush to part with any right now.

Many I've sold off or given away:

Serge Lutens; Santal Majuscule, Borneo 1834, Vetiver Oriental, and arguably Fleurs d'Oranger, though the latter I've only owned in decants.
Frederic Malle: Citrus Bigarade, Lys Mediterranee, and Carnal Flower.
    Caron: L'Anarchiste.
    Czech & Speake: No. 88.

I'll admit that a lot of these I still highly regard as fragrances, but they no longer have the same appeal they once had.

Also, lot of Arabian perfume oils I've collected. They're nice, but just too linear and bombastic, most days.

I've realized in the last few days that I've fallen out of love with a pretty huge chunk of my collection. I had a love affair with CDG 2011 a few months ago and then one day I just realized that the far drydown was annoying me and now every time I wear it I just feel annoyed when the amazing gluey top dissipates. Likewise Memoir Man initially impressed me so much that I instantly splurged and bought a bottle and now that I've worn it so many times I'm bored of it and borderline annoyed by the tobacco that comes out in the drydown. ELDO Like This was a love at first sniff, and honestly I still enjoy it, but everytime I wear it my family says it smells like a woman's perfume mixed with sunscreen and thusly the association has made me grow weary. I will probably be selling these soon but it's a little nerve wracking because I don't want to regret it if one of them gets discontinued or something. It almost seems like the longer I have a full bottle of something the less exciting it is and the less enamored with it I become ...

I've come to realize that OVERUSE is the main reason I fall out of love with a fragrance. I'll use one very often - indeed rather obsessively - over a period of weeks, and then, suddenly, it turns on me and I can't stand it. That recently even started to happen with one of my absolute favorites, Chypre Palatin. But I think I caught it in time.

So I'm really trying to avoid that loop now by mixing things up and having a time out from those that I've soured on - and from those that are on the verge.

This happened big time with Coromandel for me. Blazed through about 3 samples of it and couldn't sleep until I had a bottle. Finally got a bottle, gradually grew to dislike it over the space of about 3 weeks, and ended up selling it to a friend. Really poor decision on my part; should've gone for another one of the Chanel Exclusifs.

I've fallen out of love with heavier oriental-type fragrances in general, in favour of lighter (and dare I say 'fresher') fragrances.
