This did happen, and it was smashing! I came away with a Malle sampler:

French Lover (listed first because of the awesome name)
    Noir Epices
    Geranium pour Monsieur
    Vetiver Extraordinaire
    Musc Ravageur
    Angeliques sous la Pluie
    L'Eau d'Hiver
    Bigarade Concentree
    Bonus: Eau de Magnolia

They had me at "Pour Homme," but that only shows up on the removable sleeve.

Also Etiket was nice. I'll have to buy something from them. I left with samples of Moulin Rouge 1889 and L'Air du Desert Morocain, bien sur.

Hi, everyone! I was a longtime POL'er, then dropped off when my interest in perfume waned (and the site kept disappearing). I went through a period where I couldn't stand any fragrance at all; my sense of smell seems to have become much more acute for some reason. I'm still not good with anything strong, but I'm gradually feeling drawn back to fragrance in light doses. In the meantime, I've managed to shift from spending money on perfume to spending it on photography! I hang out mostly over on Instagram these days. I've got the same name there and here that I did on POL.

Just thought I'd check in on the old place tonight on a whim, discovered it was down for good, did a Google search, and here you are. Nice to see some familiar faces, at least virtually. Thanks so much for offering this space, Grant. Somehow I never realized that "Basenotes" on POL and you over here were the same person! I'm feeling very blond right now.

It was a shame that POL was closed but I am so glad that there are some members here.

I wish that there were a welcoming too for the leftover members of The Perfume Magazine Scent of the Day group which may be over here, too, but I don't know whether this is the case.

Ursula, as a sometime participant, I for one am happy to drink a toast to the former Perfume Magazine forum. I think some of the members are also members here. The Perfume Magazine was a beautifully done initiative.

Bumping to say hello to former fellow POL-ers. I miss POL, it was a gentle and very informative place to discuss perfume - so many members with such detailed knowledge. I haven't really found a 'home' since POL closed but intermittently post here and have also started to frequent Fragrantica.

I was a POLer back in the day and I'm still around occasionally, mostly lurking. My case is similar to some others I've read on the thread. Life just took me in another direction. I went back to school, became a registered nurse, and am now back in school again so doing both of those things. So I'm busy.

It was that and also that I kind of reached a point where everything new I tested seemed so derivative of another scent. I wasn't getting surprised anymore and so I stepped away from the hobby to a great extent.

But it would also make me smile to read a post from a familiar name or icon....Donna, Caz, Besotted and I'm sure I'm missing some names but I met a lot of very wonderful people. The other day, I found a picture of myself and Tambri taken during our NYC get-together. Great times.

Nice to hear from you sharilstuff! I remember our meetup in NYC fondly. What are you studying this time around? I am now retired and spending summers in Montreal and winters in San Diego.
