Default You can now Tag your fragrances!

You can now add tags to any perfume in the directory, so if you wanted to categorise certain fragrances as 'office wear' or 'summer', you can.

    1. First of all, go to the page of the fragrance you wish to add tags to and make sure you are logged in.
    2. Scroll down...
    3. keep scrolling a bit more, it's underneath Private Notes, and looks like this:

    4. Type the tags in the box separated by commas. (If you make a mistake hit the backspace button twice, or click the 'x'.) it should look like this:

    5. Press SAVE and you'll get a list of your tags:

Click on one and you'll be shown all the things that you have tagged with that keyword

    Notes

    • The integration with the wardrobe isn't as good as i would like. Expect some improvements on this when I update the wardrobes system
    • Tags are public, you can go to other wardrobes and see their tags
    • When there is enough tags we will show the most popular tags for each fragrance on the directory pages

Other New things you May have missed:

    Background

A long time ago (in 2006) I added the ability to tag your fragrances. This feature got removed in an update about 2 years later, when I didn't have time to transfer it to a new system.

In 2010 I intended to bring them back again, and did all the coding for it, but I wasn't happy with the user interface for adding tags. (this may explain why the word 'tagged' has been sitting in your wardrobes for the last five years looking all weird and unloved)

I had another look earlier this week, and sorted it out. I was going to launch this a few days ago, but the marketplace stuff took over.

I still have the tags that people made ten years ago. If anyone still wants them I'll try and work out which HD they are on and look at how to convert them over I've added them -- see later post

Thanks Grant! The tags are only visible to others when they visit my wardrobe, not in the directory?

    Yes.

The directory will eventually display common tags but, they will be linked to other fragrances with the same/similar tags rather than members who gave them that tag.

Unless you have set to hide your wardrobe.

Update: I've added all the previous tags, so members who made tags 10 years ago have their tags too.

So to see how this will work,

Popular tags so far, so the following fragrances:

Gucci Envy for Men : warm, woody, spicy, evening, romantic, sexy
Shalimar: vanilla, romantic, warm, oriental, elegant
Chergui: romantic, winter, sweet, warm, woody, sensual
    4711: citrus, refreshing, unisex, clean

That's very good tagging already, very descriptive. You probably think it's too early, but I think you should consider making the tags visible now. It's helpful for someone browsing the directory, and useful for anyone else thinking about adding tags to see what kind of vocabulary others have used.

my tags are somewhat utilitarian, however not illogical I might "refine" my tags later on or even adapt to tags that are agreed upon by the community. I just remembered a "to go" tag, for frags that are simply there when you have no idea what to wear, so you grab any of your "to go's" and go

I also have a suggestion - when we go to our wardrobe, section "tagged", to have a "remove tags" option so that we don't have to go to each frag individually to remove tags

Is there a tiny bug on some of the fragrance pages?
Some pages only have a small box for tagging, and when you write in the word, it doesn't turn green. And I can only add one tag. When I tried to add another one, it was made into one big tag called "coffee gourmand" instead of two separate tags.

I'm not sure what's causing the small box bug -- it also happens for me on New Haarlem. You need to separate the tags with a comma (to allow for tags with spaces in) and that should work on the broken small box pages too.

I'll see if I can work out what's causing the broken box

It appears that the script that does the image lightbox on user upload images, is conflicting with the script that makes the tags go into bubbles, as the small box broken tag thing only happens on pages with user images.

The functionality for both still works in that you can still add tags, and still add/view pics, but I'll add it to the buglist!

(At least I designed it to still work when it fails...)

Great new features, Grant. I love that I can build a journal of notes for my fragrance library and the recommendations for similar fragrances is very helpful. Thanks for all the work you've put into it.

I just discovered this feature and am loving it, thanks! Will try to chip away at tagging my wardrobe a couple frags at a time. Are public tags still in the works? Do more people need to partake in order to do so? And is there a preferred syntax to multiword tags, i.e. "fresh fougere," "fresh.fougere" or "fresh-fougere?" Assuming tags will be accent-free, but correct me if I'm wrong...
Please check out the bottles and samples in my swap list.

I love to tag my wardrobe! You can tag any way you want, there is no preferred way to do it, but my advice would be to write the words separately: "fresh fougere", so we don't end up with a heap of obscure hyphenated tags. I haven't heard any launch date but the more tags we have, the more useful it will be when it's made public.

Great feature! Will my tags show up on my wardrobe page? And if I click the "Office" tag on my wardrobe page, will it give me everything so tagged in the entire Directory, or only the 'Office' tagged fragrances in my Wardrobe?

I hope the tags will be shown on the wardrobe page, but they are not currently visible.

When you click on a tag it will list everything in the directory you have tagged with "Office", not just items in your wardrobe.
