Default Ralph Lauren Safari for Men EdT

    What's your take on it?

    Thanks!

A compliment-getter. A fresh leather/floral with a great "classic" bottle for a Belle Epoque gentleman!

I received a bottle of it when it first came out and kept it for many, many years... That said, I never wore it because it never struck me as appealing. The only Polo compositions I ever reached for (and they are both great) are the Original formula Polo and Polo Crest.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady original formula (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage/V.I.P. for Men (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4)
Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6)
Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
    9) Javanese Patchouli (Zegna) - tie
    9) Monsieur de Givenchy vintage (Givenchy) - tie
    9) Coeur de Vetiver Sacré (L'Artisan) - tie
    9) Polo vintage (Ralph Lauren) - tie
    9) Patou pour Homme Privé (Jean Patou) - tie
    9) Oud Shamash (The Different Company) - tie

I am looking to buy a bottle after giving it a try the other week. Seems like a classic composition with very good quality.

I remember when I was a kid my best friends dad wore this. We used to go through his room when he wasn't home and I used to take the lid off and smell it... My friend wouldn't let me spray any though because he said it was too expensive....

I'm curious to get some and see what it's like after all these years

Love it. Signature as a youth. Disappointed it has been reformulated. Luckily I found an old bottle at home with about 15ml in it

I recently picked up a sample, and if I'd seen Freewheeling Vagabond's original post, I would have tried it today. Look for a bump tomorrow.

Like many of it's vintage, a shadow of it's former self. Was one of my signatures in the 90's and remains special to me for that reason.

Had a bottle years ago of the original. Remember it being pretty good. Don't know about the reformulated version.

Vintage was richer, spicier, but I'm quite satisfied with the recent one. Is it already discontinued?
    Still old school and versatile.

A quite classic fragrance, in the good way. While on the heavier and more formal side, none of its notes is overpowering, jarring or unbalanced in my opinion and the final outcome on skin is quite rich, masculine, persistent.

I wore this a lot when it first came out—I was a fan of Polo, Polo Crest and Monogram, so it was a natural that I should take this one up. I like the ascerbic opening with its eucalyptus and bergamot; from there, it goes straight to dry spices, leathery patchouli and manly sweat. No sweetness anywhere and in fact it reminds me quite a bit of a drier, medicinal Givenchy Gentleman, in its vintage form.
Safari is as arid, spicy and masculine as a khaki bush jacket worn all day in the field, back in camp with a pink gin sundowner in its hand. It is hard and handsome, with a loaded bolt action rifle in hand and a day’s stubble on its sunburned face.
In his ongoing attempt to reimagine—in his own image—the last days of the British Empire, Ralph Lauren has created a harshly masculine, modern scent, seen through a sepia-toned lens, with all the retro trappings of the Raj. This recreation may not truly be a pukka sahib, but is still someone to be reckoned with.

I tried this at a store a few years ago briefly and from what I remember I liked it.

I feel I should revisit this, since this is of a style that I enjoy (as opposed to the modern Polo releases).

Thank you all for your impressions, always nice to hear your thoughts.

Havent tried the vintage, but the current one smells good. Performance is lacking, unfortunately. How does one identify a vintage bottle?

I really like it, and I still have a bottle, though I don't wear it a lot. I'm not really sure which formulation I have.

Bought it a year or so ago - had a bottle for awhile, but tired of it - it was ok but I was early in my journey and found others much more to my taste - so off it went

I'm not an expert, but one observation that I did make when I purchased a 'new' bottle a couple of years ago is that the juice is noticably a much deeper, darker orange colour nowadays than the paler, milder amber coloured juice that I owned circa 1998.

I'm wearing the Safari sample today - the current version on sale at Sephora where the sample is from. After an hour or so, smelling it on my wrist, it reminds me of the so-called metallic note in the current version of Platinum Egoiste.

    I like it.

1990's template a la Egöiste Platinum. The original Brooks Brother is extremely similar to it.

Would be one of the nicest bottles around if it were not for the plastic coat of arms, it ruins it, though.

I bought a bottle recently and it left a much different impression that the occasional sniffs I took at the shop. My bottle is aweful! Absolutely wreaks.
