Bph is a great fragrance with a host of notes that sing in a harmonious symphony. The opening is a bit harsh but after that you are in for one hell of a ride, they don't make them like this anymore. I'm sure a lot of the ingredients have been banned or restricted by the IFRA.

The scent is one of the last great old school fragrances that has been discontinued but is still available. The quality of the notes is very impressive, I managed to pick up three 30ml bottles. Enjoy!

an awesome fragrance...supposedly first fragrance to use oud...IMHO masterpiece...like Jack Hunter said " they don't make them like this any more"...see a lot of comparisons to Lapidus and Kouros...I can see it being in the same ballpark, but definitely stands on it's own...to my nose a very unique, otherwordly take on incense...
and just by coincidence, it's my SOTD....

Blind bought Ho Hang Club a few months ago. Not a bad scent (sort of carnation heavy, could be interpreted as grandmotherly) but quite poor longevity for being one of the old, supposed "powerhouse" scents.
    Sold it quickly.

Both are superior examples of 90's beauty.
The Club ranks ever so slightly higher, in my opinion, as it is skankier and holds, as an Old Fashioned, Top Quality example of the High Art of Perfumery.
An elegance that it shares with Leather Oud.

Probably the best place to check would be the review section here.

My quick verdict as an owner of both is Balenciaga pour Homme is a masterpiece calibre composition, while HoHang Club smells good but not great (still quite the value at the relatively inexpensive prices it sells for).

Also, check out Cristobal it is a big winner also. Wearing Pour Homme today it is a wonderful powerful scent. As Jack mentioned above the beginning surprised me to borderline harsh but after that a beautiful cornicupia of notes. Ho Hang Club is on the way as e-bay is discounting heavy at the moment and didn't want to miss the bargain.

Balenciaga pour Homme is one of my favorites. It is a very complicated fragrance with excellent performance. Ho Hang Club, while not as good as BpH, is still worth owning, especially at the prices it's selling for right now. It has decent longevity and stays close to the skin.

Just received Ho Hang Club today and a quick spray on the wrists has me sniffing away. Great price and I am really enjoying it immensely. Refined and surprisingly potent this has some staying power.

In all honesty, I have to concede, that of the two, Balenciaga Pour Homme is the closer a Masterpiece for Balenciaga.
Ho Hang Club rates very high because it constitutes a piece of the History that leads to.
I am cheered that you have tasted HHC first because it provides a clear window to the Art of an Era.

Both are terrific. I lean toward HHC as slightly better. Some say it is the less complex of the two. I'm more inclined to say that it is the somewhat more harmoniously blended of the two scents that both have complexity and quality of ingredients that would put 98% of niche fragrances to shame.

I've never tested Balenciaga Pour Homme.
Is an oud note really discernible in it? Vintage or otherwise?

Strangely there has been a resurgence of vintage Balenciaga pour Homme bottles online in the past year.
Most have leaky sprayers but I fixed that by replacing it with a sprayer from an empty Kouros bottle.

Never sensed any oud in this, but LT & another industry legend (forget his name) - both mention Balenciaga PH as being the first western perfume to use oud.

I recently picked up both with that past 6 months and PH is definitely masterpiece material. Ho Hang is quite nice too.

I don't detect oud in it either. If it really is there, it's an infinitesimal amount.

I think I paid ~$30 for a 30ml bottle almost two years ago, so when the 100ml testers started popping up under $40 several months ago that was a no-brainer. I think that was a scentmonkey purchase rather than ebay. The 100ml sprayer leaks and the 30ml doesn't. I have a couple of other bottles that leak from bad o-rings in the stem, but my Balenciaga sprayer leaks because the plastic head has a crack in it. I've thought about super-gluing it but I might see if there's another bottle (hopefully one of the cheapies) that could act as a donor.

I got a very small sample sized amount of "Ho Hang" by Balenciaga..I'd smelled it before years and years ago..I had at least one friend who liked it. I couldn't recall exactly what it was like though, and really wanted to smell it again! It's funny..smelling it again even after years, I remember it clearly now from before! XD
Mostly it just smells like a very nice pleasant men's cologne, that reminds me a lot of a men's shaving cream that "The Body Shop" used to carry years and years ago! I would also agree with people who categorize it as a somewhat unisex fragrance too, I honestly would wear it! (I don't mean that as an insult, or to put off any guys who like it. It does smell like a men's product too..I just personally really like it! And I think lots of people consider this one unisex too from what I've heard! Although it was originally marketed only to men, I think..in the original ads.)
After I wear it for at least ten to fifteen minutes (or something like that) I find that..to my nose and on me in any case..it also has this kind of sweet fruity smell that reminds me a lot of blueberry yogurt cups! XD It was when I smelled that that I clearly remembered trying "Ho Hang" years and years ago! XD I was like.."oh yeah..I remember this one now!" XD It's not a bad smell per se..just..interesting..lol. In the dry down, after wearing it all day, that scent goes away though. Actually..overall I find it a much lighter scent compared to a lot of guy's fragrances they make and sell today! I find the sillage and longevity aren't so huge with this one. I felt like it actually faded out kind of fast on me actually. So..mostly I would say I like "Ho Hang" but I have some slightly mixed feelings about it too lol.
In any case..I think some person here on Basenotes once said they categorize it as an "insane" fragrance, and I strongly disagree with that assessment! It's actually a pretty nice cologne! I think maybe they just meant my friend was completely crazy, but that's different! XD Don't blame the scent! XD
