    Default Oh my goodness.......

Just wearing Chanel Egoiste (a sizeable decant received as part of a swap from a generous Basenoter). This is probably the 4th time I'm wearing it.

Dear oh dear, I can't believe how good this smells, and how good I smell!

I've tried more than 50 fragrances over the last three months or so, but never felt compelled to start a random thread like this.

I know exactly which bottle to get next.

What release? Current or vintage? I find the vintage version to give me the reaction you just described.

Egoiste is a gem of a fragrance. Enjoy! I know you are!

It sounds like the current version with it being part of a swap, and no mention of vintage. I find it to be roughly on par with vintage Egoiste - maybe that will change over time, but I think current Egoiste has enough about it to be in the conversation with vintage, for its own attributes, including what they've done with the opening, which I think is well done.

I love when that happens. I had the same experience with Interlude Man. The catch is, of course, that Interlude Man isn't versatile at all... but oh how marvelous it smells.

A constant favorite of mine. Glad you're enjoying. Nothing beats the frag head "high" when wearing a new scent that really clicks.

This is one I've come around to as well recently.
Wasn't that impressed when I first tried it, but recently got a small decant that I look forward to wearing this autumn and winter.

And yes, I do get something a little dirty from it, but nothing too serious.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Yep, Egoiste is one of the great ones for sure! And a "generous basenoter" tells me that this particular bottle from which the OP's portion was decanted is approximately 10 years old - not sure what that may mean in terms of formula evolution. I know that I'm personally unable to detect any difference between this bottle and my memory of the fragrance from circa '89 or so.

I detect a difference between recent and earlier releases. It's not a remarkable difference, but enough that leaves me preferring older examples. Still, the current one is quite nice.

As for skank... don't get that. A touch dirty, but nothing like what patchouli might bring. One of the best fragrances from the house of CHANEL.

It didn't work for me when I tried it several years ago. It felt so opulent and dandified to me. But my tastes have changed a lot. I'd be really curious to try this one again.

    Glad you're enjoying it!

Yup - similar reaction here too, but I'm starting to use more of this, after having bought couple of vtg 75 ml's this yr.

Current is decent, but vtg is exceptional...

Top fragrance and one that has not (currently) suffered much, if anything, from the dreaded reformulation.

Our tastes seem to overlap a fair bit, freewheeling, so I'm glad you like this too.

it's a great masterpiece, here was a flop when launched in 1990 maybe because the TV commercial was everywhere, in my top ten for sure..enjoy it..I usually layer vintage with the new version...

Great to see more and more people coming around to this! It is a masterpiece, my no. 1 of all time, and one of a few scents that are very intact, despite their age and at least a couple of tweaks/reforms. What is out there now is still head and shoulders above everything else, but the vintage is definitely richer smelling, has a slightly different balance and of course good quality sandalwood.

Freewheeling, I'm really happy that you found a WOW fragrance, because I know you've been sampling and swapping a lot lately to get to this point! This is one I would love to sample, but I've never seen it at any department store, but I'm going seek this one out. And from what I've read, it sounds like the majority of devout vintage Egoiste fans are suggesting the current formulation does the original justice, albeit not as rich.
