Default In your view.. What is the definitive 80's Powerhouse?

I was just curious as what people on here would say is their definitive 80's powerhouse fragrance? The classic, that for you just defines the era and says everything about what an 80's powerhouse should be.. The one that was worn the most back then, wherever you were.. I see lots of threads with lists of them and plenty discussion about 80's powerhouses.. but not many regarding what people think of as the one? Would love to hear some responses. If you could only pick one, what would it be?

    Thanks in advance..

I was a teen in the 80's so what I smelled (in school and at the mall) was mainly Drakkar Noir and Polo Green.

I was a tot for the back half, but I know my dad wore Cool Water, Lagerfeld Classic, and Halston Z-14. Now that I think about it... with a little effort I bet he and I could search out a vintage haul in the basement. Update after Christmas

One I really enjoy and fortunate to have a large bottle of is the original Sagamore.

So many... Drakkar Noir and Polo - sure. Opium, Obsession, Poison - there were clouds of these everywhere you went. Antaeus, Kouros, Bel Ami, Patou Pour Homme, Quorum, Zino, Versace L'Homme, Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme, Trussardi Uomo, Derby, Giorgio Beverly Hills... man, there were a lot of great ones in the 80's... ;-)

If I could pick just one and wear it today - tough call, but it's a tie between Bel Ami (shaker bottle) and Derby (bee bottle). Both survived the test of time very well and I wear these all the time, especially Bel Ami - which is as close to my holy grail as it gets.

I think of Cool Water and that whole genre as being more of a 90's thing. CW was released in the 80's but none but the most trendy and uber hip were wearing it in 88. I remember Gillette had a product called "Cool Wave" which was cheap and rather ubiquitous, showing up in grocery stores alongside matching deodorants. I remember in the 90 people started wearing hippie oils and essential oils and there was a movement away from mass market stink juices.

The first time I really smelled Kouros after getting into fragrances, I instantly thought, "so this is what I've been smelling all these years." There are a lot of other definitive scents of the 80s, but Kouros is a powerhouse through and through.

Drakkar Noir will always be THE 80s scent for me. I remember wearing it to seventh grade dance with a pink Miami Vice-style blazer (including rolled cuffs) and thinking I was the height of style and sophistication.

When I hear the term "powerhouse" I immediately think of Drakkar Noir or Kouros. As for my fave 80's powerhouse, I'll have to go with the nuclear powered monster Lapidus Pour Homme.

Jeesh.... I don't know how to pin it to just one...

    GIORGIO
    SANTOS DE CARTIER
VAN CLEF & ARPELS POUR HOMME
    BIJAN FOR MEN
    KOUROS

POLO and OBSESSION were big in the 80s but that isn't what comes to mind for me when I hear "80s scent."

Another thread prompted me to look at the fragrances on the Kmart, Target and Walmart websites. Judging from those sites, the 80s never really ended. All of the fragrances from my childhood are still top sellers. Chaps, anyone? What about Stetson? Or Pierre Cardin in its ludicrously phallic bottle?

I suppose the 80s were the golden age of cheap fragrances.

Kouros is the king. Every time I wear it I think how great is is and how my other powerhouse scents pale in comparison (and I have and tried quite a few).

Loudest = Salvador Dali Pour Homme or Kouros

Favourite = many, but Bel Ami might be the best of the lot for me.

    Most Unique = Phileas

    Most Elegant = Gucci Nobile

Hardest to find a bottle with jus in good condition = Eagle version Derby or Ebene de Balmain

I was into Aramis & Givenchy. But I'm wearing Derby vintage today and didn't know it was 80's till Remik mentioned it. I didn't wear it then but think it is more wearable that the one's I did wear. I'd call it "the one" for now.

To me it's a tie between Cartier Santos, Hermès Bel Ami and Polo.

All are absolutely fantastic, but I'll go for Santos of I must choose.

It's such an elegant, dark and brooding scent.

I was born in the 80's so can not relate as someone living there, but the ones I identify to those years, either in vibe or uncles, family members wearing them or both are Azzaro PH and Drakkar Noir.
