Default 2 Armafs in today: Club De Nuit Intense Man and Shades Wood-- Thoughts inside.

    Club De Nuit Intense Man:
This is supposed to be a very accurate Aventus clone, but I have never smelled Aventus so I can only compare it to other clones and fragrances in general. At first it is a little more peppery than most of the other clones, but that goes away relatively quickly. This smells heavily of bergamot or lemon (I'm pretty bad at telling them apart), I am reminded of the discontinued D&G Masculine in the citruses used. There isn't a whole lot of smoke, and it is much fainter than Unpredictable Adventure, in that regard. From my initial wearing it is a little bit better than ok, personally, however I wouldn't say it is bad. I will get a decant of Aventus soon, and obviously, will be able to make an accurate comparison since that is the main reason most people care about this fragrance. Oh yeah, on a final note, the presentation is great. The bottle is one of my favorites in my collection.

    Shades Wood:
This one has been compared to Rose Oud by By Killian. I could actually smell a stingy rose/geranium/floral scent from the decant package even before I opened it, it living up to its counterpart's name. I sprayed it on paper and the rose actually settled down (I was initially concerned that smelled too "perfume-y" and I couldn't wear it without smelling like a middle-aged woman. The rose surprisingly died down considerable and what I was left with was the tradition haystack oud note, that I like in Oud Absolut, and also something that smells just like cherry-cough syrup. I don't know if the Robitussin-like smell is the oud or something else, but there is a very syrupy heart at the middle. There is lingering "airy" floral note that I am not sure whether it is geranium or rose (I am terrible at distinguishing floral notes). Finally, after 6-7 hours I got a light cedar note at the base, which I am assuming was there the whole time. I guess ultimately all of this would matter to your average consumer because there is no debating that this is a very "niche-styled" scent at a low cost. I have not worn on the skin, but my gut tells me from how pungent it was on paper it is going to be a beast. Finally, I would really be curious what better noses and more experienced niche-connoisseurs thought of this. This one is very syrupy.

Personally, I am a little concerned if I can pull of Shades Wood as the florals may lean it a little more on the feminine side. In contrast, many Fragrantica reviews raved or complained about how masculine it is.

Beauty is the disinterested one, without which the ancient world refused to understand itself, a word which both imperceptibly and yet unmistakably has bid farewell to our new world, a world of interests, leaving it to its own avarice and sadness.

No problem, more to come soon.

    UPDATE EDIT:
I applied Shades Wood on my skin when I got home from work today, and it smells much better! On skin, it is much more masculine and the oud and incense pop a lot more.

Into the drydown, it is getting more floral again in a way that I do not like.

So I finally got my Aventus sample vial in the mail today and I can compare my clones to Aventus.

CDNIM smells incredibly similar, so much so that I almost have to doubt the legitimacy of my sample vial seller and if I was just sold a Creed vial with CDNIM in it (I am fairly certain he is legit, though). I always imagined Aventus to be much more smoky in the way that Unpredictable Adventure is. I don't know that if somebody sprayed one of each on differing arms that I could tell the difference—or at least not without much discernment. CDNIM is a little more peppery and "zesty," but they are pretty similar.

    Sample packaging says "14k01" batch.

Longevity with CDMI has been the issue when compared to Aventus. You can spray a whole bunch and it will fade within hours. Although the same thing is said with newer Aventus, so.....

Really? I heard the longevity is great, and people are getting compliments 6+ hours into CDNIM. I am bad at judging longevity, myself, since I get olfactory fatigue relatively quickly. Most of the compliments I have received (10+ hours after application sometimes) I could not smell the fragrance on myself even if I tried my best.

There was a thread a mile long about CDNI, the most common complaint was longevity yes. I actually liked it, especially mixed with some Lomani ab spirit silver which is very smoky. Let me try to find that thread

I think I took this guy's comment and extrapolated it:
    Quest_35
"You don't need twice as many sprays with CdNi, I'm fine with 2 sprays on the chest and maybe one spray to my neck and I'm good for 6-8 hours! I have been getting just as many compliments as with my Aventus. I would say that this definitely takes Aventus to task! If Armaf made this as an edp, and kept the price below 60 dollars, Creed would have to lower the price on Aventus to compete. I'm pretty sure it's why SMW, GIT, and VIW are cheaper than Aventus, there are other cheaper options out there for those fragrances, and now there is one for Aventus."

He was saying similar things (a few echoing him) in Fragrantica threads, too.

The strange thing, at the end of the day, is I think I like Unpredictable Adventure the most; it smells very good (sweet, smoky, fruity) and has garnered over the top Axe-bodyspray commercial style compliments with women literally stalking me over it.

I got a really nice compliment last night on it, (CDNIM). Another remarkable thing I'm noticing, too, about it is that it actually smells like it has ambergris in it.

Often the results are much more favorable on skin.
