Default Chinatown - Bond No. 9 - differences between 2005 bottlings and now ?

    Hi everyone.

I'm interested in purchasing this fragrance, and I'm wondering if any of you have compared older bottlings to the current ? Is it worth chasing an older bottle, or is it still now the same as it always was ?

Thanks and best wishes to all for 2016.

    Hi all,

further to this thread, I am wondering if anyone who bought this fragrance when it was released can confirm which bottle design they have ? As you can see, there are two bottle designs - pink flowers with white background, and white flowers with pink background.

    Many thanks in advance.

I bought my bottle about 5 years ago, 50ml, and it looks like the one to the right (white flowers on pink background). it smells wonderful, ripe fruits and all.

But I don't know how the recent batches smell, nor if there is any relation to the color.

As always, thanks for your reply cacio.

The bottle you have (white flowers pink background) is also the one currently shown on the Bond No9 website. I would assume that they of all people would update their images, which leads me to think that the other bottle (pink flowers white background) may in fact be the older one.

I am glad to hear your bottle smells wonderful.

    Any other replies always welcome.

    Thanks again.

EDIT : cacio, having further researched this, I'm wondering if you can confirm whether your bottle has the same print on both sides, or are the two sides different ?

    Thanks

yep, you are right, when I lifted the bottle, the other side is indeed the opposite, pink flowers on white. so it seems they're just two sides of the same bottle

Thanks for all your help cacio.

This makes it very hard to date the bottles, also taking into consideration that Bond No9 refuses to talk about batch codes.

Given that Chinatown was released in 2005, do you think it contains any ingredients that would be affected by EU/IFRA edicts ?

    Many thanks.

If you could get a current sample that might help you make up your mind.

Thanks kumquat. No dealer in my neck of the woods, as far as I can tell.

I'm not usually a fan of samples, since I can never guarantee that the sample will be the same batch etc. as what I end up buying. But in this case, I might not have a choice.

    Thank you.

    Here's a review from 2013 that's very favorable.

Hi kumquat. Yes I saw that earlier - thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, with Bond's caginess when it comes to batch codes, I can't identify the relevant batches.

    Never mind.

    Thanks again.
