Default Creed Himalaya - Is it worth it?

I've been thinking of adding Creed Himalaya to my collection. I've more or less got all the main line Creeds covered by now. Any that I haven't got yet are either not my thing or I've sampled them and don't like them. The only ones that have ever crossed my mind that I have not got are Himalaya. I don't have Bois de Cedrat, Neroli Sauvage or Royal Water either. But from what I've read the first two wouldn't exactly be my thing and I gather the latter leans towards the feminine side.

Which basically leaves me with Himalaya.

Is it an essential and worthy addition to a Creed collection? I've read alot of reviews comparing it to Paco Rabanne XS? What's the deal with that? Is it really close? I've even read some people say they can't tell the difference..

I would love to hear you fellow Basenoters opinions on Himalaya (and maybe how it compares to Paco Rabanne XS also!)

    Many thanks in advance..

I think so. Himalaya is probably the most underrated creed. It smells great performs above average and can be had for under 120 for 75ml

Here's a vote for holding tight for now. The fee to store some of these bottles is outrageous, and those may not get much use. Check scent of the day, I don't see these getting mentioned often.

I had XS and got rid of it.

Not really that similar to xs.

It's worth a purchase in my book. Very long lasting performer.

To answer the thread question, IMO yes.

Are you a collector or a user? I just checked your wardrobe and you already own GIT and SMW which for me personally would make Himalaya redundant. All down to how much you like Himalaya.

Himalaya is somewhat similar to XS, but XS has a minty note in it that I don't care for too much. Himalaya is much better - but more expensive also.

I like Himalaya, but I wouldn't consider it "essential". But would be a nice addition IMO f you can get it at a good price.

I think if bought grey market at a benji or slightly more its worth it. At full retail i dont feel the same. Its not bad but its a super fresh manly in the same realm as many others. I think it smells great. Just not $360 great.
If you are one of those people who insist on paying full retail......Please check out my for sale thread.

I have both but prefer XS - it lasts longer on me than Himalaya does.

When wearing them they seem almost the same to me. When I spray one on each hand and compare, there is a small difference to my nose.

While on vacation and I purchase all those Creeds the Sales Rep gave me some samples to try, one of them was Himalaya. I just got around to trying it today and was thoroughly impressed with it. I haven't heard any hype around this fragrance and had assumed it was just middling and not that good.

What I smelled was some really good stuff. I'm now hi king of adding a bottle to my collection. Personally I think better than GIT because the opening to this is much smoother.

They are very similar. I slightly prefer Himalaya, as XS is a little sharp for me but considering how cheap the Paco Rabanne can be bought for (literally 10% of the price sometimes) I wouldn't even consider the Creed.

I share this opinion. I own GIT and SMW and have always held off on buying Himalaya, but when I sample it, I really like it and end up debating it all over again.

This will be like screechy SMW for a few minutes and then turn to a very feeble slightly soapy scent. The only benefit, if you want to call it that, is that this one is so short in duration that it is less objectionable than SMW. But, as I am sure you know as a Creed collector, the true value of Himalaya rests on the fact that it was first made by Creed for the rulers of Tibet during the Qing dynasty.

Himalaya is an awesome scent! Could be anyones signature, but not for retail prices.

I find it a great daytime fragrance during the cold winter months when I want a pick-me-up.

don't reach for it much when it's warm/hot out. but still def a worthy frag to own.

If you really like Himalaya then YES, it is probably worth it for you. About every other year or so I consider purchasing Himalaya and I always decide NO.

Himalaya is worth it if you can afford it and you love it. Only you can know that.

For me, it's a pass. I'm glad I have a sample, but no. I find it to be kind of screechy.

It sounds like you'd be buying it blind. Why not sample first? I can usually tell by the end of a sample if it's something I should buy or pass on.

I love Himalaya and am coming to the end of my 4oz bottle. I find it very potent and 2 sprays lasts me all day. I most definitely will re-purchase.

it takes more than 20 sprays for a decent performance, at least on me...when over was not repurchased , an expensive skin scent!

XS, though slightly different, is still similar enough to make splurging on Himalaya seem like a poor use of $130 - $150 (depending on the discount). I'd get XS and use what's left to buy another more original Creed.

Any suggestions on what an original Creed would be?

    So far I have..

    - Millesime Imperial
    - Virgin Island Water
    - Silver Mountain Water
    - Aventus
    - Tabarome Millesime
    - Erolfa
    - Bois du Portugal
    - Green Irish Tweed
    - Royal Mayfair
    - Acier Aluminium
    - Original Santal (sample)
    - Sublime Vanilla (sample)
    - Irish Tubereuse (sample)
    - Aberdeen Lavender (sample)

To be honest, I'm not really all that interested in the Acqua Originales or the Exclusives like Pure White Cologne and Spice and Wood, at least not without sampling first. I'm really just interested in the main line Creeds. I don't want Original Vetiver either. The only grey cap I have is Acier Aluminium and I generally hear that it's probably the best of the remaining ones.

I'm really all outta options from the main line. I guess I own more or less everything from the main line except Himalaya, Neroli Sauvage and Royal Oud. It's a toss up between those. I've kinda ruled out Boise de Cedrat,

Royal Oud is the best Creed for me, just an amazing scent. Can also be layered with Aventus.

EROLFA, GIT, MI, Neroli Sauvage, Tabarome Milliseme, SMW, and Royal Mayfair/Windsor fit that definition. Plus any of the greycaps.

It's nice enough, but not really an attention grabber. I had a decant that I enjoyed, but then hardly used it when I got a full bottle. Cool and soapy with a comforting sandalwood and Creed millesime base.

Well then the only one I'm missing is Neroli Sauvage. Will have to do a little more research into it. I'd looked it up but from what I recall it didn't sound like one I'd be into. Shall have another look.

I own XS and Himalaya. They don't smell similar IMO. Galloway by Parfums de Marly is closer to Himalaya than anything else I've smelled.

Should you buy Himalaya? Sample it first and decide after you've spent a bit of time with it.
