As long as it was good merchandise, Mr. G's free publicity was welcome ... now when it is questionable merchandise, stop shouting it from the internet rooftops.

Simple, and the circumstances will not change.

LVMH shifting the 'responsibility' to Facebook is pathetic. When I wore Bois d'Argent a few days back, it lost a little charm given Dior's ownership of LVMH. I do hope that LVMH do the right thing, that is, make a retraction and apologise to Monsieur Guerlain. To think how much I've spent on this conglomerate and it's associated companies... oh dear.

Well actually, yes, I did think that any hard work was something that belonged to the owner. Wherever it got put. I had no idea these spaces online could be controlled by others so easily. This incident really makes me distrust the Internet as much now. I would think very carefully about where any hard work went to in future. It is a salient lesson in ownership in the new age of virtual space.

I can understand and appreciate someone being asked to remove sensitive things but I can't understand the total removal of all the work there.

The hard work and hours spent aren't very virtual. Those are very real indeed as is the sheer waste of good information. The site only got popular and gained any influence because of that sheer hard work that went into it. It didn't get good on its own by virtue of position.

Since the 'sensitive information' in question came directly from Guerlain, it's difficult to imagine why they would provide it, if they felt it was 'prejudicial' in the first place.

This incident with Mr.G is a tiny fraction of LVMH brutality. LVMH have been bullying the french consumer for years. They have enforced a block at source on anyone with a french ip address....anyone living in France is not allowed to purchase LVMH products from websites such as Strawberrynet and thousands of other websites. Ebay sellers in France are not allowed to sell any LVMH products, not even long discontinued Guerlain perfumes. Even worse than that, french ebay sellers are not allowed to sell ANY perfumes by the name of Vetiver/Vetyver. That includes ALL vetivers...including Puig Vetiver/ Jacques Bogart Vetiver/ Lanvin Vetiver/ Le Galion Vetyver/ Carven Vetiver......you get the drift. They are well and truly in control here. It's frightening.
I live in France and sometimes it feels like North Korea here. LVMH has an iron grip, which some would argue is breaking international rules of free trade.
If you google Mr Arnaud you will find a wealth of info. Due to his advance buying of Hermes shares, thank god he didn't manage to get his hands on that company !

This fragrance house has been going down the past few years. Monsieur Guerlain actually generated interest in me for some of their fragrances. I learned SO MUCH from it, its sad this happened. It was actually way better than the retail site. I recall one of the last few things posted on the Facebook page was that the LIDGE bottles are being discontinued and bottled now in the old school habit rouge bottles. People started speculating that are sales that poor, that they have to use standard flacons. I am wondering if that upset some people at the corporate level. Also I am not impressed with Wassier's work thus far.

I'm glad I was done with Guerlain after my last Mitsouko purchase. Reading through the list of brands now owned by LVMH, I note Dom Perignon among them...I shudder to think what future vintages will be like.

That's... unbelievable. ANY vetiver cannot be sold by sellers on eBay for any brand, within France?? They don't have a copyright on that word! Sounds like LVMH must have some very powerful political connections... You're right. Makes it sound like North Korea. Seriously unnerving, especially for a progressive country like France.

I won't be able to rock my beloved Habit Rouge with the same enthusiasm as before. ...and I hate to admit it but I'm seriously considering a switch to Creed's Royal Mayfair. Frying pan Vs Fire. Corporate greed Vs glamorizing nazi sympathizers. Never did I imagine that this perfume hobby would get so complicated and political...
It is true that fish stink. It is also true that the river is

    is noxious remains so.

That is not to say that sh*t is not useful when buried in the wheat

Words can be copyrighted. The Parfums d'Orsay company successfully sued Guerlain for the use of the word "dandy." Guerlain was forced to pull all of their Arsene Lupin Dandy bottles and repackage them.

This seems to be the latest, thoughtfully put together. Maybe it's already posted upstream but can't be bothered wading thru it all.

There are few sellers on French Ebay who have got round the ban. Now its very very very hard to find, never put the name Guerlain in, you will find m*i*t*s*u*k*o mispelt and some symbol in between each letter. I found one about a year ago like this. Now no idea if they have gone and been reported yet??

Now, if Mr. G got himself an attorney to defend his position ... it would have to be a perfume enthusiast. It still remains a David vs. Goliath situation.

A reviewer called Archivist put up reviews on Fragrantica about this on their Guerlain pages and I was able to access a few but as I was doing that I was suddenly getting an error message when I tried to access any Fragrantica page. Am I being watched? Maybe not... I can access them again. It must have been an internet overload, maybe.

l looked at the Fragrantica page for Mayotte linked above, & one of the reviewers makes reference to a review by Archivist, which isn't there! Are reviews being removed now, or did he remove them himself??

After thinking long and hard, I have decided to cancel a planned shopping spree at Guerlain until and unless this matter is settled reasonably. Infringement or not, I feel that that the close relationship Guerlain had with Mr.G amounted to implied consent. Why on earth did they invite him to events, give him access to the perfumer, even sent him the recent set of reconstructed classics for review if there was a problem?

This pains me more than it does them, I know. I really, really love Guerlain and have since childhood. I do not intend to smash bottles or give into any other sort of emotional outbursts. I won't allow this negative situation to spoil my enjoyment of my beloved Guerlains (and I suspect it would only make Mr. G feel worse if we did). But for now, my money will go to smaller, non LVMH houses.

If you want to write to Guerlain, voicing your concerns, there is an e-mail address that Kafka mentioned in her first article -

    http://www.kafkaesqueblog.com/2016/0...ieur-guerlain/

    irousseau@guerlain.fr

I have already written such a letter, in English.

It may have a little more weight than mere outraged Facebook comments which tend to disappear quickly.

I've written already, as have others here. The only problem is that it is not really Guerlain who needs to hear it, or at least, not primarily Guerlain - it's LVMH. Bombarding Guerlain with emails about something LVMH has done - it's something, and that's why I did it - but it's surely a little off course.
