I've given a lot of thought over the last couple years about you being into reformulated Or Black - every time I've come across it on eBay. I've had samples of both versions, from memory, and felt like something was missing from the reformulation. I couldn't justify buying the vintage for so much more based on a couple sniffs in passing while you were reassuring me that the new one is fine, so I never pursued it.

Yes, but which one of these three?

Is that like a T.J. Maxx? I found some vintage-looking bottles on ebay, but the prices are too high for me. What I need is for a bottle to practically throw itself at me for 10 or 15 bucks. It could happen, but like I said, I'm not holding my breath.

Was just thinking the same. It's throwing me off and making me pronounce it differently. You're wearing Kouros Fraîcheur, RoRo. The diminutive lower-case doesn't add up

I changed it. I wanted my username to be easier to type. Only after I changed it did I realize the "R" could be typed easily with the left hand alone, and maybe "RoRo" wasn't so bad after all.

Huh? Did you trill the "R" when it was uppercase, and now the lowercase doesn't seem to deserve the same treatment?

Y'all're making me regret it already.

It went from "row row" to "roar o", like Zoro. I wish I trilled it, maybe I should start.

To stay topical, my off-the-cuff answer to the question would be Quorum, with Pour Lui a strong second. Both of those strictly require near-lethal oakmoss levels to provide their innate magic.

The vintage? I'll have another look. I figured the only place to get the vintage stuff would be on ebay or a similar site.

Second and perhaps more importantly, after spending almost two years with only the modern 2014 version of Or Black, which I genuinely and deeply felt was more than adequate to satisfy me during wearings of my long-time all-time favorite, I recently picked up a vintage bottle and much to my surprise, I no longer feel that way.

I still think the 2014 version is a really well-executed, true to the original reformulation, but was something missing from the base. I noticed it right away (in 2014) but it wasn't nearly enough of a difference to bother me or get me to continue hunting vintage. I was actually really excited that my favorite fragrance, that I thought was discontinued, was now widely available for like $30-$40/100ml. How could one not be in that scenario?

I think I polished off my last vintage 50ml in mid-2017 and had come to terms with saying goodbye. I still had a few 4ml minis of vintage for reference, which I would sniff often and always came to the same conclusion - the 2014 is more than good enough for me. Seeing one of these 50ml bottles pop up for a great price, I figured why not, and bought it. It arrived, I sprayed a few times on my hand, fully expecting to think "Yeah...this was an unnecessary purchase." but instead, it nearly blew me away. I couldn't believe how good it smelled. At first I figured Or Black was just really clicking that day, so I sprayed some of the 2014 on my other hand, and it didn't do the same thing for me.

I still think the 2014 version is an excellent reform, one of the best I've come across, and I don't really find that my perceptions of the differences has changed at all either. Rather, that small difference I've always picked up on, the extra musky growl in the base, has become far more appealing than it used to be.

In a way this a good thing, because I'm thoroughly enjoying it. On the other hand, the more affordable bottles aren't cutting it the way they used to. Maybe I'll flip-flop again in the future. Here's to hoping.
Having never smelled the original, I quite enjoy Or Black in its current form. But now I'm intrigued.

I can't name just one!!! Depends on what month it is I guess. Antaeus will always be in my collection because it is what really got me interested in vintages. I probably have 20 plus I can't live without though!
