As usual, you all smell amazing. Earlier today I was rocking Jovoy Private Label to the new Men in Black movie with the kiddos. Idk. Seemed to work. But tonight I’m back on my vintage train with multiple glorious sprays of silver cap Capucci Pour Homme. Damn good SOTN!

Thumbs up Re: Your vintage SOTD

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Sure. Keep in mind this is a first wearing, so things may reveal themselves differently after a couple wearings or so...

Based on what I’m smelling on my skin... Imagine Brigitte Bardot is sitting out front of Les Deux Magots with Alix Grès. They’re catching up and also discussing how bull headed the men in the film industry are. ‘These directors think they are gods that you must worship and yet follow you like a little puppy begging for a bone.’ - fake Bardot comment to Grès. Bardot comments how intoxicating Jean Rochefort smelled during their recent filming of Two Weeks in September. Grès happens to know Jean well and claims that he typically bathed himself in Aramis. Bardot asks Grès if she can make her something that smells like her and Rochefort were in the middle of being intimate. Cabochard is born.

Of course, that is all fictional. Cabochard was born prior to when that fake conversation could’ve happened. That’s the picture it paints for me mentally. It opens fruity and with a touch of ylang ylang, and Aramis running quietly in the background. In the drydown (what am I? Maybe 40-something minutes in the wearing now?), the fruity notes are an afterthought and you get some light red and yellow florals blended very well with ylang ylang and a very VERY soft undertone of Aramis (more like the Aramis soap). I need to look up information on the fragrance. I’m assuming this was created for women based on the structure, and know essentially very little about women’s fragrances. I would feel comfortable wearing this today, and do, and I would also enjoy smelling this on my wife. If my wife wore this, I’d think something very naughty is imminent. A guy can dream, can’t he?

At this point I can’t comment on performance. I hope this helps paint a picture!

Your story is so much better than what probably actually happened. Which was something like Bernard Chant staring at a bottle of Cabochard six years after he created it, and thinking "Hmm. How can I turn this into a men's scent so I can just blow off the assignment and go to the beach today?" And boom -- Aramis is born.

For a long time I've been thinking about creating a Bernard Chant sample pass, since there's such a strong personal signature running through all of them. And there's only 14 of them, created between 1959 and 1985, all of which are still pretty easily obtainable, much thanks to Lauder.

Preach, sista! Chant definitely used a ‘signature’ throughout the creations IMO. That way all would know he’d touch the fragrance. He seems the type that it’s important to get that recognition. I wonder what the process was for becoming a human test strip for him. I chuckle when I see the pics of him smelling the back of women’s hands. The one where he’s sniffing the hand and staring you in the eye is especially unsettling. Lol
