'Scuse me for budding in here. I have the '80s version and love it! Lovely bright yellow citric herbal opening that i often describe as 'meaty', and goes on herbal and leathery with a kinda dusty veil to it, ending woodsy and mossy. Lovely blended.
I own the '89 version in the cumbersome tall triangular bottle as well, which emphasizes a more powdery aspect and, IMHO, is good but nowhere near as beefy as the '86 version.
    Haven't tried deep vtg yet.

No need to be excused: I welcome your input! I’m pretty sure ’89+ is out, given your comments, ZC’s review, and others. ’86 looks good, but it’s about as easy to score that as the original and “buy both” seems a tad excessive, so I figured I’d try to avoid regrets.

Okay, well if you go for 1st version, try and get the tall spray-bottle with silver cap. Apparently that one is awesome and mossier, and still has fairly well-preserved topnotes.
My '86 is a splash but so well blended with the top intact, that I didn't care for seeking out the spray version of it afterwards.

Today is BOSS by Hugo Boss ('85). This pre-barcode west german Eurocos-version is solid and powerful. Feels like everything is done right with this.
Fun fact: They used caramel as a colourant in this. Haven't seen that before.

Mid-1980s paper label edition. I'm stealing roro's photo because he has the best pix -- not to mention the best vintage No. 19s.

    Hugo Boss Sport

Bought a mini out of curiosity. It’s “zesty,” herbal, green and definitely has a mid-to-late 80’s feel.

I like it, but I don’t think I’ll look to purchase a full bottle... Definitely a “like” but far from a “love.”

Today I wore a non vintage called Agua de Mayo. Had a vintage vibe to it. Kinda old 70's Cyphre barbershop. It didn't seem overly aquatic. SOTE is Calvin EDT. Its very nice kinda reminds me of Giorgio Beverly Hills VIP in the dry down. Anyone get that vibe?

Hahaha I can't find much info on it in English. It is Parfums Saphir Agua de Mayo EDP. One site said it should remind you of Loewe Esencia. I found notes on it to be
    Top: bergamot, lavender and mugwort
    Mid: blackurrant and nutmeg.
    Base: vetiver and Patchouli.
Its a cheapie but quite nice IMO

There are actually a lot of hidden gems in the Latin market which cost pennies but never make it here. They have a half dozen mailorder brands that all compete with Avon too, each with tons of male releases that veer old school, because the style never went away down there like it did in the states. Still plenty of drugstore leathers, spicy orientals, chypres, and mossy green frags, just gotta blind buy them from eBay haha

I believe it's a Spanish phrase meaning the first rains of May. I could be wrong though lol

Literally, "Water of May." It does refer to rainfall, but it's metaphorical: rain in May presages a bountiful harvest, so "como agua de Mayo" is an expression of good fortune in the nick of time, like getting some extra money just when the bills are coming due.

Interesting...do you know if the women’s market tends towards old school as well? I’m guessing not if they are competing with current Avon for women. What are a some brands to explore? Thanks-

Silly but serious question: how do I search for those/that on eBay? 'Latin current but oldschool drugstore fragrances for men'?
