Default Oh no, I've been bitten....

By the Royal Oud bug. Through reading various discussions on RO, I decided to grab another decant to try it again.

And for some reason, I've fallen for it. I love it. Probably will pick a bottle of this up soon. It's funny how tastes change. This is my longest "coming around" period to date.

Tastes and perceptions certainly can change over time. RO is a fine scent. Enjoy it the second time around.

It loops around from time to time depending in usage as I once loved it and after a couple of Y ears is just a decent scent to me ATM ...nevertheless, enjoy this fine scent though!

I need to visit it again. Most fragrances seem to wax and wane with me.

Royal Oud is probably my most complimented niche scent. Where I live, winters are cold and very rainy, but summers are warm with very low humidity and rain is rare. I mention this because I find Royal Oud wears perfectly in both of those scenarios.

Yes, it's fantastic in summer! The hotter the weather, the better (but again, I'm talking about very low humidity in summer). I've worn it when temps hit 100.

Performance wise, it's a champ. 2 sprays easily last well over 12 hours on my skin. It isn't loud, but it's not a skin scent either. Also, Royal Oud is the perfect scent for anyone who needs an example of the difference between projection and sillage. A lot of people (most people?) mistakenly believe sillage and projection mean the same thing. Nope, nope, nope. Projection is a measure of distance that a fragrance pushes out. Sillage is the length of time that a fragrance lingers when you leave. When a fragrance fills a room, that's projection. When you walk into someone's office or bedroom and you can smell their scent even though they left... that's sillage. Often, scents with big projection also have big sillage, but not always.

In my experience, Royal Oud has moderate projection but big sillage. It doesn't push out far, so it won't gas people out, but it hangs around a long time, so if you walk away, you'll leave a trail of it. For me, that's a perfect combination. I like moderate projection and big sillage.

I'm surprised by how good the feedback I've gotten from Royal Oud has been. I've had several women tell me things like "I usually hate when guys wear cologne, but I love this!" Royal Oud doesn't seem like something that would reel in compliments, but for me, it sure does.

The only negative is that the opening can be polarizing. It goes through a brief phase where it smells almost burnt. I love it, but I can see how others might not like it at all. But as I said, that's just the opening & it quickly fades to reveal a marvelous sandalwood.

I can't say enough good things about it!

This one is excellent unlike some other CREEDs, love it.

My only gripe is that it is somewhat weak.

My bottle of Royal Oud is from 2011; the year it was released. Because of this, I almost feel guilty if I use it. It's like I feel like I'm trying to preserve it or something lol. Weird. I like it a lot, too.

Link? I ask because I'm not seeing it. I am seeing 2.5oz testers on ebay for around $140, which is a decent price for it. I bought a new bottle (not a tester) on Lilydirect for $125, but that was around a year ago. I also scored a 2.5 oz tester on Amazon in 2013 for around $70, but that was pure luck (they were selling it as new for around $115, but when it arrived without a box or cap I got in touch to report the error... they offered me a partial refund if I wanted to keep it. That knocked the price down to around $70, so I jumped at the offer since I'd already sprayed it to confirm it was the real deal. Like I said... pure luck).

I think Royal Oud is one of the best things that came out of Creed. Certainly much better than that other thing they sell that necessitated its own forum, lol. Performance is well above average, if anyone claims otherwise, they are likely anosmic to it and don't realize they may be choking the room already, while not detecting the scent themselves. I think LHBI nailed it - it doesn't project very strongly after the first 2-3 hours, but it still leaves a nice scent trail even when you think it's closer to skin scent by then. I'm not anosmic to it at all, though, and can easily smell it on myself for a good 10-12 hours.
