Default New Perris Monte Carlo - Absolue d'Osmanthe and Santal du Pacifique

    The Fragrance Santal du Pacifique

Santal du Pacifique is a hypnotic and mysterious fragrance in which the warm, creamy and velvety woody notes develop an enveloping warmth. Floral notes emphasize the mysterious, intoxicating and gentler aspects of the fragrance. The Extrait of Santal du Pacifique also contains precious Iron, a molecule that is derived from the most valuable iris butter. Through this combination, the sandalwood becomes even warmer and more full-bodied.

    The Fragrance Absolue d'Osmanthe
Absolue d'Osmanthe is a sensual fragrance, sophisticated and daring, harmoniously constructed around the flower of osmanthus, with soft fruity accents. Arabian jasmine and sandalwood enhance the fascinating and enigmatic note of this fragrance. The base fragrance reveals a sensual touch, reminiscent of amber and wood mixed with vanilla, labdanum and Tolu. In the Extrait Absolue d'Osmanthe there is additionally a "Rose Petal" from Robertet. It highlights the floral, fruity facet of the Osmanthus ideal.

    ----------------------------------------------------

Each scent has 2 concentrations, the EdP (100ml for 125 Euros) and the extrait (50ml for 275 Euros).

Just saw these two for sale earlier this afternoon on the FIF website. Picked these for free samples to be included with the purchase that I made earlier for the PdM Layton.

Please do report when you have a chance to receive and test the samples. I am also interested in Layton as the notes sound great.

How can people still trust a brand that started its niche venture by fooling customers bottling the same exact stuff they made under Alyssa Ashley brand name - for three times the price.

I once got a complementary sample of Ylang Ylang Nosy Be. Quite liked it, strangely enough. Now, however, I'm tempted to fill it up with indignation and return it.

    WHAT?
This to me is as outrageous a claim as Dior Sauvage's "abroxan derived from the most natural ambergris". A claim of course we all know to be as valid as plastic being a naturally occuring element
Can anyone verify what the above is on about. Perhaps 'Iron' has been mispelt or something?

(Sorry, OP not blaming you here at all, just curious about clarifying this claim).

I agree too. Would be interesting to see how they smell. The brand is now widely available here.

+1 on this. I did like the Rose de Taif, despite the price tag. It felt like a nice enough Incense-Rose without the oud but I had my reservations.

That's what caught my eye too. I assumed a misspelling or overzealous spell check. Orris? Iris?
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

I have never tried any Alyssa Ashley scent. Perhaps Perris Monte Carlo's Ambre Gris, Musk Extreme, and Oud Imperial scents are identical to Alyssa Ashley's Ambre Gris, Musk Extreme, and Oud pour Lui?

I cannot find any info directly from Perris Monte Carlo website. The above descriptions were copied and pasted from First in Fragrance. Perhaps a misspelling or lost in translation, I am not sure. I will keep you posted if I find any additional info.

Tough crowd! See post #55 in the following thread.

    http://www.basenotes.net/threads/306...is-Monte-Carlo

I have sampled several of the extraits previously released but not these and found them to be opulent and to be made with quality ingredients, seemingly better than the lower concentration versions. I would happily sample these if I could.

Oh no, don't do that. If you no longer like it, just pass it along for other BN'ers to try.

Ah, thanks for the link. The Oud Imperial Edp is quite potent to me and cannot even imagine how the extrait smells like... nuclear bomb :-)

I find their scents can be layered quite nicely. I like to layer their oud with rose or oud with ylang ylang, or even rose/ylang ylang with patchouli.

Got a sample of Absolue d'Osmanthe that I'm wearing right now. This is incredibly smooth, a clean, polished apricot flavored osmanthus, well-balanced between the fruit and the blossom. It's very much a soliflore to my nose, but a very, very nice one. It began sort of dark but actually as wearing it it's brightening up quite a bit.

I'm no osmanthus expert so take this with a grain of salt. I'v smelled about 6 Osmanthus specific fragrances. And I like the note, so there's a good chance I'm going to like a lot of the stuff I try. To sum it up I guess this is 1) smooth 2) soliflore, apricot osmanthus balanced between the blossom and fruit 3) reserved but substantial 4) linear 5) in the middle as far as light and dark, maybe leaning a little dark 6) unisex as much as a straightforward osmanthus soliflore is unisex (my wife thinks I smell like a woman right now, I don't).

I'm wondering if the incredibly smooth quality of this is coming from sandalwood, which is sometimes almost odorless to me but appears as a smooth, milky warmth in the base of fragrances. Because it doesn't smell woody, but there's a definite depth beneath the osmanthus.

Then you probably wouldn't like Miyako, which cuts it with a hefty dose of bitter leather. I prefer Osmanthus "neat" as well. It's such a beautiful note, just let it work its magic alone. Absolue definitely leaves it to shine on its own. FWIW, I sampled the EDP.

I am sampling Santal du Pacifique extrait today and the first impression seems favorable. The sandalwood just lasts from start to finish and is supported by a subtle floral note. The scent is milky, creamy, though slightly sweet. It's not harsh like Tam Dao EdP (which I like though I think the top note is rather rugged) and less sweet than Ava Luxe No.23 (another wonderful sandalwood scent which I adore). To be honest, it's just a straight up sandalwood scent to my nose and quite nice. Now this is the extrait that I am smelling so not sure how it's different from the EdP if any.

Absolue d'Osmanthe is, IMHO, a gem. I get more sandalwood than osmanthus but certainly unisex if not leaning masculine. Worth a sniff.

It's interesting you were able to pick up a lot more sandalwood. I smelled lots of osmanthus from the start and it lasted quite a long time. I smelled some sandalwood too but was not able to detect much. For me, the sandalwood kicked in later in the mid till dry down but not quite dominant with some florals in the background.

Maybe because I am a docent at a Chinese Garden and I know intimately the smell in October and November. I don't smell much of the osmanthus with the apricot background but it is there, but this scent is delicious to my nose. There certainly is a floral accord that resembles osmanthus. Looks like a buy for me.
