Thread: Soapy Perfumes

  1. #1

    Default Soapy Perfumes

I just learned the existence of fragrances resembling plain soap smells. Which ones do you know. I got Kenzo Pour Homme, cause it reminded me of a soap, i used to wash my hands with when i was a kid. I hear Mugler Cologne is based on a soap that Mugler encountered on one of his trips to Morocco. I also think Clinique Happy is another one on this category. any more to add

Mugler Cologne although don't know how it came about, to me is a bit soapy, but love it.

Apart from the already mentioned Mungler Cologne and the Infusion series by Prada, perhaps also Rive Gauche pour Homme, Yardley Citrus & Wood as well as the lavender classic by the same house, Acca Kappa Muschio Bianco, both the feminine and the masculine White Musk by The Body Shop also smell quite soapy to me

Chanel No 5 has soapy notes too.
Seconding what other people suggested, especially the Prada infusion series.

I second Himalaya...It is an incredible soapy scent..., but sits VERY close to the skin and doesn't last very long.

Also, try Montale White Musk. That has better projection and longevity
Mancera Aoud S. also smells soapy if you can get past the Urinal cake Aoud in the opening,

dougczar hit the nail on the head... Penhalihon's Castile is a soapy, neroli, musk concoction that is great for summer and totally unisex.

Almost any Prada fragrance has a signature soapy accord. Luna Rossa is nice, and an extreme example of it.

1881 Edition Blanche Pour Homme is an underrated one.

Quite true. Perhaps Infusion d'Iris is the soapiest, but I use and like the EDP.

When I read the thread title, I thought of this one... Basically smells like spicy soap to me.

Edit: And it's cheap! I got a bottle for less than $10. As a side note, this one performs really well in the blistering humid heat, whether you want it to or not. I use it on summer days when I know I'll be outside in a refinery, and it pyschs me into thinking I don't stink as bad as I likely do. At any rate, it's a nice change of smell from any potential petrochemical aromas I may encounter.

Ivoire and Chanel No. 22, if you're not afraid of florals.

Otherwise I agree with Prada Infusion d'Homme.

    A few suggestions -

    Prada Amber pour Homme
    Prada Les Infusions series
Sung Homme (but current version could be a bit crude)

This is a solid quintet, and true on Sung Homme.

I'd mentioned Penhaligon's Castile, but another fragrance from a bygone era just came to me...

Captain Molyneux ('75) is a classic, uber-manly, sharp, hairy-chested soapy fougere... Great stuff...

It's not for the faint of heart and certainly doesn't smell light or "modern." This is a broad-shouldered sharp, green, soapy powerhouse at its best. Reminiscent of vintage Worth PH and less abrasive than the Worth Haute Concentree (but done in a similar vein), this is a heavy-hitter that takes no prisoners but has the charm to win you over.

If you can score a vintage bottle at a reasonable price, it's worth every penny if you're a vintage power house fan.

Another vote for Sung Homme. At $10 for a big ol' 3.4 how could you not?

Its soapiness is what makes it such a fun wear and also its only downfall - it really does smell like a cologne interpretation of a soap interpretation of classic green accords so it's twice removed from the source. It is green smelling, but not the kind of green that gives you photorealistic mental images of pine trees and moss.

That is odd, it is absolutely NUCLEAR on me. 2-3 sprays results in 12 hours of longevity with heavy projection. It actually makes feel a bit self concious.

These. In fact most of the prada infusion range is fairly soapy.

I get no performance issues with Himalaya. Lasts all day and then some. Anything more than 2 sprays with that old Creed sprayer and I'm choking myself out.

AdP's Colonia Essenza struck me as rather soapy too.
When I had a sample of Czech & Speake's 88 I found the rose and geranium to also be fairly soapy (along with unlit incense and some subtle sandalwood in the base).

Another vote for Original Vetiver. Never smelled the Mugler that is supposed to smell similar.

Never really 'saw' this one as soapy, but now that you mention it, I would tend to agree.

Generally most light vetiver-based scents tend to come across as soapy to me, but also some sandalwood-centred scents too.
