Thread: best fragrance from Guerlain?
I noticed how cheap these fragrances are and was curious which ones are worth checking out

So many classics. For me Vetiver started my fragrance obsession.
Unsure whether the best, but some personal favorites (personally considering to be worth further exploring) include, in no particular order: Habit Rouge EDT and EDP, Vetiver, Heritage, Mouchoir de Monsieur, Guerlain Homme Intense, Songe d`un Bois d`Ete, Aqua Allegoria Limon Verde, L`Homme Ideal Cologne
My favs are
Habit Rouge extrait
Songe d'un Bois d'Ete
For me, the EDT is what clicked. It has a clarity that made me see the greatness. I also totally got the flanker Shalimar Parfum Initial, but would not have, without reference to the original.
Beyond that, what sorts of fragrances do you like? There are classic Guerlains, and modern ones. I tend to love the modern ones, but there is a wide selection of styles there.
My fave right now is probably L'Homme Ideal EDT. I already got a back-up bottle!
+1 for Shalimar
Jicky is one of their best, and has one of my favorite patchouli notes ever.
Eau de Guerlain is a genius composition.
L'Heure Bleue can make you melt.
Obviously try Shalimar.
You will be busy for a long time with Guerlain.

Mitsouko, while definitely feminine, is amazing. Definitely worth a sample.

Adding my vote for Shalimar. The first whiff of that intense and crazily luxurious vanilla + sandalwood was like pushing through the back of a wardrobe and discovering Narnia, Hogwarts and Discworld at the same time. I thought LHB was my OTP, but I made an even more visceral connection with Shalimar immediately (vintage extrait).
Songe d'un bois d'ete.
I think nominations should come together with their vintages.
Among current ones, I'd vote for Derby.
And this entire fragrance house can be that good-especially from a general perspective, it would even deserve more documentaries, PhD theses, both fictional and non-fictional works etc. about it, without even becoming in the slightest boring, irrelevant and/or redundant.
Touched by his noodly appendage 😇
Habit Rouge Dress Code
Chamade Pour Homme
The Desert Series
Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.
Mean spirited, nasty, snide, sarcastic, hateful, and rude individuals on Basenotes don't warrant or deserve my or other Basenoters' acknowledgement or respect.
Shalimar, with Jicky a micron after it, as the closest no. 2 in history. When it comes to the art, imagination, timelessness and emotional effect, these twp take the cake.
“To defeat an enemy you must know them. Not simply their battle tactics, but their history, philosophy, art.”
Derby is my favorite, but it is not cheap. Of the more reasonably priced options, I like Habit Rouge the most.
Shalimar is out of race, because Shalimar is not "a perfume" but "The Perfume".

I don't know much about medicine, but I know what I like. -- S.J. Perelman
Vetiver is excellent, dignified and classy as well, but not an everybody scent.
To name a few:
Eau de Guerlain
Eau de Cologne Impériale
I am confused about the different formulations, discontinuations, and pricing; but at various times Guerlain has produced some beauties. I have a bottle of Habit Rouge edc and here are four more I would love to have in a proper vintage in a proper sized bottle:
Sous le Vent
Vetiver Pour Elle. Forgot that one. That's very likely MY personal best. Just love it.
Asking to pick one is unjust when it's Guerlain we're talking about...
Habit Rouge EDP
Chamade and l'Apres l'Ondee aren't getting enough love in this thread. Along with Jicky and Mouchoir de Monsieur, these are probably my fav Guerlains.
Song d'Un Bois d'Ete is great (and I like Encens Mythique d'Orient too), but expensive. Derby is pricy too. Vetiver Pour Elle is great if you can find it.
Among the less-expensive masculines, Vetiver, Heritage, and Habit Rouge.
Almost all the old Guerlains are worth a sniff and some thought. The newer ones like L'Instant de Guerlain, Guerlain Homme, and L'Homme Ideal are probably easiest to instantly like if you're just getting your feet wet.
"Perfume and incense make the heart glad..."
Another that I really like is Shanghai. Happy to have that one in my collection. It's an odd mix of mainstream and powdery girly elegance that's Chanel-like in wearability.
BUT WAIT - THERE'S MORE!!!
Boisé Torride - amazing scent. Technically for the girls, but intentionally beyond androgynous - positively Amazonian! Easy guy pull-off.
Too many wonderful Guerlains. Not enough time or money!
