Default Fragrances Cost Too Much In Canada?

Due to the current economic situation with the Canadian dollar, most fragrances are more expensive than what it used to be around 5-6 years ago. For example, a Diptyque EDP fragrance costs around $200 in Canada but in the states, it's around $150.

To those who are living in Canada, is this having a toll on your fragrance purchases?

Yes - most of the time...Even if u buy off discounters in the US, having it shipped over is much more expensive & most even don't (or if shipped, chances of customs are pretty high - from USA, based on my exp). When CAD $ was in a better standing, importing from EU was the best way & I did buy a lot from Europe few yrs back...Thankfully, I already have way too many now to worry about buying too much.

A few Canadians use PO boxes in the border area & once or twice a yr cross over & bring their stuff - maybe u should do the same, if u plan on buying a lot...

I can support all that Badarun says and add that many of us are frustrated with all that is stacked against us.

It's (almost) always been this way (since the 80s anyway....and that brief stint a few years ago). The I telnet has definitely given us better options though. I almost never shop in-store anymore.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, lots of people use that trick to buy goods. Let's just hope the Canadian dollar recovers soon.

Yes! I'm finding it's also more difficult to find niche lines domestically.

Big yes here too. I'm always doing the conversion in my head when shopping online. It definitely limits my purchases.

How funny... in Costa Rica prices are even higher... AdG costs around 140$... a Versace is around 110... Spicebomb and Flowerbomb cost 190$ each....

absolutely. our dollar is HURTING. suffering! but as far back as I can remember we would always cross the border to duty free for everything, not only fragrances but alcohol as well. Outlet malls in Buffalo were a dream! Alas, I buy on ebay most of the time and the prices aren't too bad. You can come across REALLY good deals, just ensure the item is authentic. I hardly buy from retailers anymore as the prices are inflated to the extreme. except for sephora as I get sucked into their whole points thing fairly fast...

Besides the weakness of our CAD$, most of the online discounters either do not ship to Canada or they apply huge shipping fees.

Yup. Our low dollar and high shipping costs cut down on my record buying a whole bunch too. I'd be buying way more perfume if our dollar was back on par.

Look on the bright side. At least, in Canada, we have a Younger Generation, Vibrant, Sexy Leader for four years. Poor Americans are going to be Lead by a Geriatric Crowd for four, no matter how they vote.

    So true...
Most worn scents according to my haphazard use of the SOTD...so perhaps my favorites.

Thanks for sharing this! If I may ask, how did you find their service?

Side note: fingers crossed that Canada Post doesn't go on strike!

    I was investigating Baruti.
I first ordered a Sample Pack and to my surprise it came out of Calgary Canada Post with a Canadian stamp. When I ordered a bottle it came via UPS Ground. It came with some samples of Brecourt,
Hendley and 4160 Tuesdays . Quite quick too!

I can vouch for indie. I think Calgary is their only location in N.A. and likely worldwide. I'm in the U.S. and my order originated in Calgary. Came relatively fast (by ground) and well packaged. Few nice samples too, I think they let me suggest what I wanted...but that might have been Indigo.

Big thanks to purecaramel for turning me onto them (and Baruti!)

Indiescents used to be located in the US if I'm not mistaken, but they moved to AB couple of yrs back. Very good service & prompt responses to emails all the time.

    Here's another Canadian-based shop:

    http://www.etiket.ca/en/

They carry Amouage, Ex Idolo, HdP, Atelier, etc.

And of course https://www.nicheessence.com/, based in Toronto.

They again carry Amouage, also MDCI, Xerjoff, Marly, Lutens, etc.
