Default Looking for a nicer variation of: Occitane Eau de Baux

    Hello,

I have recently discovered the world of fragrances. I am excited and overwhelmed. For a long time now I have used and enjoyed Occitane Eau de Baux. I love the sweet coconutiness of it. My bottle is running out, and rather than replace it with the same thing again, I'd like to try something new that has a little more bass to it and is longer lasting. Can I get some recommendations please?

Is there some other way to get recommended fragrances based on what I like/dislike?

    Thanks

Spicebomb Eau Fraiche. I noticed a similarity yesterday to EDB, but SBF is lighter and lasts a very long time. Great for summer, too.

I haven't found anything else on the market with the same class and balance and with more bass.

I recommend you the Eau des Baux EdT - and - the shower gel / soap and the aftershave.

Perhaps Guerlain Heritage (especially vintage, not just stronger but also more complex and better rounded in terms of final impression/skin development)

Cheaper - Bogart Pour Homme - although, this one's more brash...

Why not buy another bottle of EdB? It's a fantastic fragrance?

    I suggest Tabac Rouge.

It's the same sweet tobacco frag style, but I think it is better and more masculine. It has a lot more tobacco than Eau des Baux, which gives it a lot more of the 'bass' you're looking for.

tmanna, welcome! There is no better in this olfactory vein, though my experience is, like yours, very limited. I love the wood-spice-powder-slight cream of it all! I think the others have nailed it though, saying you should check out Spicebomb or re-up your EdB. Personally, I can't imagine not doing so, given how magnificent it is, and how darn cheap it is, too.I've had the shower gel, and would second the recommendation to use that and the pit-stick: for less than a hundred you can own the range, and layer! Not the same, but to my nose similar, is Chanel's Égoîste. I have worn them back to back, and thought, "Ah, this is the genre of frags I most like!"

Do give Spicebomb a try although don't know I'd personally call it nicer.

I've found that nothing is similar and I would repurchase Eau de Baux in a heartbeat.

I love Eau des Baux as well.

Not sure what your budget is, but if you don't mind paying more you should check out 1899 by Histoires de Parfums. On the designer side, you may also like Spicebomb as others have suggested.

I'd second just buying another bottle of Eau des Baux. It's better than anything comparable, and better than many things at a much higher price point, such as the juvenile Spicebomb or Tobacco Vanille.

If you really insisted though on spending more money, perhaps a spicy amber of some kind, like Ambre Sultan by Serge Lutens or Amber Absolute by Tom Ford (more incensey than spicy though). Or Tabac Rouge by Phaedon, less amber and more tobacco.

    Hello and welcome!

I second the recommendation of getting the shower gel/aftershave balm/deodorant along with a new bottle.

And while you're at it, maybe consider trying L'Occitan by L'Occitane . It's another great offering. Their Eau de Vetyver is another one, too...

Wow, thanks for all the feedback.

I think I'm convinced to buy another bottle of EDB. I just assumed that because it was a bit of a random, rushed airport purchase I was missing out on some other stuff. Guess I got lucky because I do reaaaally like it.

For those that have recommended spicebomb, interesting! This is the only other fragrance I have seriously considered purchasing so far, but passed because it was just a bit too extreme. I will have to give it another smell now though.

Bentley Extreme - I found to be a better version of SpiceBomb or EDB

L'Occitan - is good but I found it to be too fleeting

Or for a more classy upgrade - LIDGE

I'll try to check out Bentley Extreme if I can.

LIDGE = L'instant de Guerlain? This is actually the only other fragrance I own. I guess my tastes are pretty coherent!

There are other fragrances that would fit the same times when you might wear EDB. As previously mentioned in this thread, LIDGE and Bentley Intense are both nice. But as far as fragrances that smell similar, for my money, there are none better. To share a personal story, EDB was the first fragrances I added to my collection before I even understood the scope of fragrance. Since then, I have tried many, many fragrances with the idea that maybe there was something similar but better out there. Tobacco Vanille, Tabac Rouge, 24 Gold, Back to Black, Pure Havane, Herod, The Dreamer and many, many more I am forgetting later, and nothing beats Eau Des Baux. I wore it to my wedding, that's how fantastic I think it is.

I was thinking SpiceBomb too. Personally I find EDB a bit too heavy.

Edb is a beauty, and there's really nothing that can "out-Baux" the Baux.

There are, however, if you I think you would really enjoy that are sort of in the same family without being Twins or clones. Hanae Mori HiM edp, Bentley Intense, Halston Man Amber, and on the cheap, Lol any Body And Soul, which to me is a little less harsh than Spicebomb, but very similar.
My updated top ten, in no particular order:
    Bentley Intense
    Cosmair Polo Green
    Green Irish Tweed
    Calvin(original blue)
    L'Occitane Eau Des Baux
    Spicebomb/Lomani Body and Soul(tie)
    Hanae Mori HiM EDP
    Pure Havane
    Dunhill Icon
    Halston Man Amber

Do you mean Bentley intense? I don't see any information anywhere on Bentley extreme.

Eau de Baux is quite unique, IMO.

Bois d'Armenie (Guerlain) might be worth checking out . . . both are 'cooler weather' picks for me,

Voltes EdT (Diptyque) might also be worth a look.

I got the impression that it had a decent base and longevity. I guess the usual culprits are Spicebomb and Tobacco Vanille
