I had never found any information on Jean Patou's lovely 'Invitation' and so I took a chance and bought it blind some years ago. At last, I've found an article that gives the notes for this gorgeous chypre which are-
- Top notes: aldehydes, bergamot, tangerine
- Middle notes: carnation, cinnamon, cloves, mint, thyme, rosemary, rose
- Base notes: patchouli, vetiver, benzoin, honey, cedar, labdanum, oakmoss, musk and sandalwood, ambergris
At last the mystery is solved. The parfum I have is divine. A blind buy that worked out well, for a change.

What a great find!
This one I don't think had even been reissued a couple of decades ago when they resurrected a few.

You can see my blog entry and see my guess at the notes. Then I have a reference to Fragrantica. I can't remember, but I think I added the Fragrantica reference after I guessed. I'm going to double-check that. Mandarin is pretty close to tangerine and that is a prominent top note here.
No, it looks like my original guess is still there in my blog entry.

Thanks! I had not seen this one - I don't think it shows up much on ebay -so that's really a fantastic find. While I have not smelled the original, I suspect that the ma collection reissue was relatively faithful to the original, unlike the stuff they're bringing out now.
You can ask the lovely lady behind the contact e-mail from Jean Patou's web site. She was good enough to answer my questions about my bottle of L'Heure Attendue while on her free time, altough she had little information about it since what I have is the first release, from 1946. Knowing that your Invitation is a more recent version, she can definitely come with some extra information on it.
