Interesting stuff, like no other vetiver I've smelled.

It starts like a dirty classic citrus from yesterday, with Rochas Moustahe being the reference that most comes to mind. Sharp to start, dry, spicy, soapy, very musky. Strong spicy floral/carnation.

Gradually, it morphs into more of a classic soapy vetiver smell, maybe like Givenchy Vetyver or something, but still with that dirty, musky undertone.

Then, as this is an A/S, it's gone. But it's fun to splash on liberally!

Not sure it s vintage but not for sale anymore, one that I will always love, my work scent for the last 5 years, should be good to go for five more.

I'm with you on 1986-89 being a honey spot. It's darker closed in Tabac Blond Leather bitterness, spicing of Coriander and petroleum of Jasmine hold some brilliance for me. Later 1991-1994 would likely be the sweet spot for many as it opens brighter, ups a Cumin like note which adds a sexier tone.

The picture of the Shalimar is to show the scale; Shalimar from late 60's/early 70's, 1 oz, Vent Vert, unknown decade, 15 ml, and now the Tabac Blond - came from an estate sale, missing its label, but smells like weak knees.

It sounds a lot like Lanvin Vetyver (original), congratulations, sounds amazing. I tried the new one from Le Galion, which from your description was nothing like this, it is quite good but more like your standard modern more or less straight up niche vetiver. It doesn't surprise me as I have a pristine Special for Gentleman that is also very different from what they sell now. I wonder what the reformulations of Whip and Eau Noble are like compared to the original, most likely very different as well.
