Wow, 750mls. I can't even imagine owning a bottle that large. It's the size of a bottle of wine!

It doesn't surprise me as I have a pristine Special for Gentleman that is also very different from what they sell now. I wonder what the reformulations of Whip and Eau Noble are like compared to the original, most likely very different as well.
I haven't smelled any of the newer Le Galions, but do have some vintage Eau Noble, and it smells like a slightly more intense, dry take on Monsieur Givenchy; extra mossy...the reviews sound along these lines, but the devil is in the details! I'm interested in how they stack up.

WOW! I bet it smells amazing!!

LiveJazz, the newer le Galions are definitely a shadow of their former glory. Not bad if you don't know the older ones, but unfortunately, I do.

Great bottle. I love, love vintage Crepe de Chine . The parfum is rich, and I recently picked up a pristine bottle of the cologne, which wears beautifully too. Zephyr1973--you should blind buy some!

    Magie Noire by Lancome (1978)

I took a chance on this, and I'm glad I did. Because it's the only one in the entire. world.
Okay, surely not. But I wasn't able to find a single pic of another like it online.

Upon receiving it, I discovered that this atomizer is refillable. That makes me suspect it was originally part of a set that included an EDT splash.

It's a cool little item, but mainly I'm psyched just to have a bit more Magie Noire.

Nice pickup, Ro. I'm trying to recall if I've ever smelled Magie Noire, and I don't think I have. For some reason I always imagined it would resemble Theorema, dark and fruity.

Grats! Strong stuff. Have you encountered any leaky bottles? I've had a couple or so leak when trying to spray them.

Keep the functional head from a good bottle and put it on the one with a leaky head after the bottle finishes. The plastic on these tend to crack as the bottles were handled and moved from hot to cold or bumped over the years

Thanks! The aesthetics are pretty blah, but it seems well-made. I wasn't aware until today that Lancome was once a division of Cosmair.

I have a feeling that if you've spent any time with Magie Noire, or even if you've just gotten some good whiffs of it on someone else, you might remember it when you get the chance to smell it again. It's that distinctive, IMO. I've never smelled Theorema, but looking at the note pyramid and reading what people say about it, I doubt it smells much like Magie Noire. In the reviews for Theorema, variations on the word "warm" come up again and again. That doesn't sound like Magie Noire. The words that come to mind with MN are dark, sharp, cool, earthy, mysterious.

Ah yeah, I thought about transferring the little atomizer head but didn't realize why! It's super strong juice too - a little bit leaks out and welp, enjoy the smell of BpH. Haha

Also in a pinch, the spray head from a modern 8oz bottle of Pierre Cardin also fits perfectly, but doesn't have the little extended nipple that sticks through the hole on the enclosed button/cap assembly, so you gotta be careful it doesn't get turned around if you go that route.

Well I cancelled the 2 x vtg Lagerfeld Colognes 'cause I really don't NEED several bottles of the same frag, so final toll, so far, is 118ml of Polo Cologne spray, 50ml of Irisch Moos edt (powerful version) and today 75ml of PC Pour Monsieur edt spray (pre-barcode 80 "degrees" version, not %), not sure about the age of that one yet.

Very nice. You should give Rive Gauche a sniff. It's a beautiful rose-chypre scent.

I definitely will. I don't really like rose fragrances but it sounds good. My wife is excited about it.

Oh...and I guess SL Chergui isn't vintage but still very nice. I received it today.
