It means nothing to me, but others may know more about those markings on the bottom of the bottles.

Reading ROLS, batch codes were first introduced in the mid 1980s. Maybe it was before the batch codes but still from the 1980s? Too much speculation.
I have to disagree with Andre (ROLS) here, because I've found 4-digit batch codes on several Chanel extraits and EDTs that pretty clearly date to the 1970s. What I do think happened in the mid-1980s is that Chanel got serious about traceability with regard to their fragrances. They dropped the 3-character alphanumeric coding system, which was relatively short-lived and gave us codes such as 71C and 37T, and went back to the 4-digit system. It may not have happened all at once, but it does seem that fragrances *without* a 4-digit code become a rarity after the mid-'80s.

What are some the earliest 4-digit batch code EDT and extrait bottles that you found from the 1970s?
I wish there was some insights in figuring out New York's The 3-digit batch system. I noticed that all Egoiste Concentree and Antaeus Sport bottles were produced with the New York/Paris bottles and never with Paris by itself. I wonder why is that?

    2518 (No.19 extrait)

    2525 (Eau Pour Monsieur)

The current Raiders guide shows examples of batch codes going back to 1981. I'm not sure why it stops there, but using the same math, I worked out the codes back to 1974. According to this extended guide*, the two examples shown here were made in 1976. Of course, it can be argued that we don't know how accurate the guide really is. But forget about the specific numbers for a moment. With both items, the other packaging details are enough to identify them as pre-'80s vintage.

I took a closer look at the ROLS page on Chanel and found this:
Using this method, plus the absolutely necessary clues, you can date back at least to year 1981 the most of Chanel perfumes.

I guess I don't disagree with Andre after all. He didn't say the 4-digit codes were introduced in the mid-'80s.

And with that, we now return to our regular programming! (Vintage Fragrances I Bought Today)

Did not know you were Ho Hang fan. I thought I was the only one here
Also what about your Lanvin? Not in top 3?

It honestly would have been in my top 3 had I discovered it about 10 years ago when the really aromatic stuff was my obsession (I have an almost-finished bottle of Quorum to attest), but now I've been bitten by the floral bug (especially rose) and have fallen (again) into lavender barbershop land. Problem is good roses are spendy (outside our blessed Tea Rose), and good barbershops are dying (RIP Rive Gauche).

Lanvin is up there for sure, but it's not an everyday wear like Ho Hang could be, I had an infatuation with it lol, it's a phenomenal scent for sure but for a good long while I've been down with those as top 3. (subject to change, I'm getting Pour un Homme and 3rd Man next lol)

I remembered a really good Rose Chypre I tried awhile ago from a card sample called Animale, I was really impressed, I was surprised to see it's a super cheapo, could be something to check out

Both of those have "gone unicorn" and are too rich for my blood at present (Hell, Ho Hang is nearly there too), but I'd still love to sample them.

It's the feminine counterpart, it's in the directory. And yes they're sadly unicorns by now, I'm lucky to have found all three in the wild at regular prices, well not nombre noir, which is the white whale of unicorns it seems.

The masculine Animale can still be had cheaply online. Maybe it's just the feminine then? I haven't looked.

Vintage Parfum de Peau. Damascones in the bottle probably spanning the same olfactory range, but whatever.

I picked up an early bottle of Versace L'Homme. This reminds me a bit of Lagerfeld Cologne ('78). Something about the powder.

And this is one I'd never seen before, but I bet some of our Italian friends have. It will probably see duty more often as a room spray.

Vintage "journey" continues, but learning to spend less:

    LaimantPagoda.jpg

L'Aimant is not too far from the parfum, a little more civet.

I have no note reference for Pagoda, which was released in 1945 by Ravel. I only got it for cheap-ish because it is not in one of the cool stacked-tower bottles you can find empty online. If anyone knows anything about it, please share. I get a very green scent with lavender, a hint of patchouli, and floral notes that I can't identify.

I had one of those 240ml bottles. The photo doesn't really give a sense of how massive it is. That looks to be a very well-preserved example.
