Congrats on such a legendary acquisition, Bavard! This is one of the last few on my list to own, and I kind of gave up on trying to get it for some time. Seems you paid a decent price for it. Getting it for under $300 is nearly impossible, except for one lottery win by someone in our midst here (not me). From what I've sampled on the vintage, I do find the clove a bit much at first, but the dry down seems to tame it well.

That was a father's day gift by the perfume gods. Never happened again

Yeah, celery is the Caron house-note. I had decants of vtg PUH and 3rd Homme and had to chuck them because of that perverse and awful note. Ugh.

What the... I'm baffled. I really enjoy vintage CPuH and most of what I detect straight off is lavender, vanilla, tonka, oakmoss and musk. It reminds me a lot of Guerlain Jicky.

Interesting. I have vintage PUH and modern 3rd Homme and don't pick up the celery note; I definitely detect it in Yatagan, however!

In that tiny photo format, I mistook the Pinaud for a bottle of hot sauce.
That was exactly what I thought when I first saw it.

Well, I dunno. I was so chocked by that note in 3rd Homme and the fact that it was supposed to be the signature-note, that I smell it everywhere with Caron frags. It was truly awful.

Must have been a bad day. It's amusing to hear people's perceptions of perfumes, but in the thirteen years I've been here reading people's impressions about those fragrances, that's one's entirely unique. Celery is fairly strong in Yatagan but it's as far away from Pour un Homme and No.3 as a hawk from the moon.

Vintage fragrance I bought and sold not long ago. Kept a few mls. Smells great, but like most Creeds, satisfaction was fleeting. Almost kept it because I liked the bottle. :-)

Interesting about Yatagan. It is so polarizing. I've been having a love affair with Private Collection lately because of the crunchy green I get at the top and have been wanting to try Yatagan because it was also composed by Vincent Marcello. The only other fragrance credited to him is Halston Z14 which I also have not tried but have seen pop up in SOTD. If Yatagan has crunchy green stuff like celery it might be something I would like. Maybe a his and hers thing going on with the Private Collection.

This bottle replaces the same early 60’s bottle I inherited from my mother. Finally had to accept that the last inch or so in my mom’s bottle is no longer wearable.

Yeah, because it's almost $500/oz. If I were already committed to Tabarôme, maybe, but as a blind-buy? I think not.

The Yatagan celery isn't fresh crunchy green stuff; it is allegedly celery seed extract, and it sure smells like it. But, I should say that while I generally go for older formulations of venerable fragrances, my Yatagan is of recent vintage, so it may not accurately represent the original intent.

Conversely, my Caron pour un Homme Les Plus Belles Lavandes would, if anything, err on the side of senility. So, that's a whole 'nother thang.

I wouldn't recommend it for a blind buy to anyone. I just find it rather fascinating how many individuals are staring at a small quantity of juice.

Perhaps you could create a thread in the fragrance wanted thread for a small sample of it?

It's probably the lure of what they can't have. I think ZC is on point about that.

I may do just that. Once I get all this madness organized, I'll be in a position to decant and trade samples.

Have you already tried your Baie de Genievre sample? It's one of the better choices from Creed's discontinued EDTs. There's a few other ones worth sampling: Vetiver 1948, Orange Spice, Citrus Bigarrade.

If you like oak moss, Cypress Musc is worth a sniff. If like amber orientals, Angelique Encens is worth trying, if you like sandalwood Bois de Santal would be worth trying. If you like green aromatics, Aubepine Acacia is worth trying.
