Congrats! I own a big splashbottle of the Borsalino, but seldom wear it. High quality, but Very herbal and extremely bone-dry. This one and Enrico Coveri Pour Homme ('83) are almost identical, with the latter being more medicinal. They both have a sorta 'coldness' to them (I mention this 'cause I just got the ECPH and discovered that owning one would make the other redundant).

Thanks! I figured I couldn't go wrong for half a 100ml bottle at $9.99. And I haven't got the Coveri (yet), so that's not an issue.

    Man that was interesting.
But one thing I noticed is that this bottle and box looks exactly like mine sans the typo.
Maybe my complain made them fix the typo.

Also did not know Bulgaria is counterfeit Haven. Do you have the link to that documentary?

Why would you get less jail time for a spelling mistake?

Bought a 90's bottle of Minotaure (love it), and a 2/3 full (and pretty damaged) 3.4oz bottle of 80's Opium for $20. To my knowledge, I've never smelled it, though I've got a feeling I'll have an A-HA moment when I do, and memories of smelling it everywhere when I was younger, will come back!

Went for my 2nd vintage purchase ever tonight. I think the quality and depth of the new areej le dore fragrances is pushing me to discover the smells of old.

My first stab at vintage was a very old splash bottle of Guerlain Vetiver. Repulsed me nearly to the same degree of my first exposure of pure oud oil. Hoping for better luck my second go around.

This time i purchased a sample of Hermes Bel Ami, and a splash bottle of what appears to be Chanel Cuir de Russie EDT from the 80's or so. I remembered i had a sample of Les Exclusives CdR EDP that i sprayed this evening and really enjoyed it. Imagining the depth of what the vintage could bring me inspired the purchase. Hoping for better luck as i dabble in the vintage waters.

Was that because the new ALDs are so bad, or because they are so good?

Those two should convince you to swim out a little farther, assuming they're well-preserved bottles.

You're already killing it. Vintage Cuir de Russie edt is one of my favorites. And Bel Ami. Guerlain Vetiver isn't an all-time favorite, but close.

    .
ALDs have always had a distinct "punch", depth, and polarization to them. With the latest collection, he has entered a new realm of crowd appealing wearability. They are "good" in the sense that I feel all of them are wearable in public, and very well polished as finished products. However i find all but 1 "bad" because now that he's entered this new category of wearability, there are simply dozens of other fragrances i'd wear ahead of them.

If I want glorious polish i'll reach for some of the Roja Dove i've acquired. I was drawn to ALD for the primitive grunt his older-punchier musk, oud, and oakmoss creations gave me. That raw punch is entirely absent from the latest collection. To the joy of some and sadness of others.

The old old old Guerlain Vetiver splash bottle is what i tried and had to get rid of it immediately. Oddly enough the most recent Guerlain Vetiver (that i'm sure that has been reformulated a hundred times over) available for $40 a bottle is divine to my nose and the clear founding father of Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver and Roja's Vetiver Parfum.

The vintage cuir de russie i'm most excited to try. As I said last night, i saw the potential in the Les Exclusifs Cuir de Russie but it was so blatantly watered down i had to seek out a vintage to try. Looking forward to sharing my first impressions

Quick question for you all: I have some empty 5ml atomizers i keep around for luckyscent vial/samples. When i receive a vintage splash bottle, should i first try it applying to pulse points OR should i empty some of it into an atomizer and spray?

Either. The spray would be nice.

I used to always transfer to sprays, now I just apply from the splashes.

    That is an excellent fragrance.
It is similar to Azzaro , Tuscany and maybe redundant but at that price why not

I'm with Bavard on this. If I have nice big vintage splash, I might transfer 10mls or so to a sprayer just for convenience sake, but I have no problem applying directly from the bottle, either. There's something pleasantly sensual about applying perfume with your own fingers.

Nicely articulated phrase. An early sample set of ALD had so much grunt it nearly knocked me to my knees.
